Mmmmmmmmmo what to do?

Some of you will know that the very handsome and newly cosmeticly-surgerized Mo was bonded with Barney and Roxy but it didn't work out.

He is currently residing in my dining room. He did have an indoor cage but it was permanantly open because he always looked a bit sad when I shut it. He now tends to sit under the dining room table most of the time but does come out for a wonder/nibble/play quite frequently. However I think he is a bit skittish sometimes in the evenings when me and James are around and I'm guessing its probably the lack of a proper base. I was going to wait till we got a house later in the year to move him outside and get him a wifey but I'm wondering whether this would be the best option to do sooner rather than later. The only problem is that the back 'garden' is tarmaced over and is used as a carpark for three flats. However cars only come and go in the morning and evening and the area I was thinking of putting the cage is close to the house and quite sheltered and you wouldn't be able to see the hutch from the road. Was thinking of getting a large double hutch with and attached enclosed run.

As I see it the plus and misuses are as follows.
Outside
Positives
-potentially he would feel more secure
-he could have a friend sooner
-he seems to like being outside
-he could come and have a run around inside in the evenings for more space.
Negatives
-I know for a fact there is a fox about! and would obviously never forgive myself if anything happened to him
-not as secure as a conventional garden

What do you think?

EDIT: forgot to add, another reason for me thinking about this is the way the housing market is I'm not too sure whether we will still be moving so that would delay Mo getting a friend and I start work full time in summer.

Hi Isabel
having seen your car park..and with a fox about..i'd say don't put him outside at your present home...
he's miss your cuddles anyway!

Thanks Jill, yes you are right. I was just thinking out loud really. I'm sure he would miss watching telly in bed with us too  can you tell I am quite eager for another bunny  go to wait though :(

What about the skittishness? Do you think I should get him a crate and shut him in for an hour or so a day?

No from us to outside. For all the reasons you stated plus car fumes and anyone could help themselves.

:thumb: Cheers guys. What do you think about the crate or do you think we should keep him free range in the room he is in. Its absolutely not a problem wth him being free range he is totally undestructive. But I'm not sure if he feels secure.

West Bridgford does seem quite bad for urban foxes. I was speaking to lady who lives near Musters Road the other day, and a fox broke into an outdoor run in the middle of the day, and killed both her GPs  :(

I can sympathise about your garden not being secure because mine isn't...our garden is at the side of the house, so is easily visible from the road :(

Omg! definitely a no then.

Jaynie has a base made of fireguards which is quite big, she'll often spend all day in it though the door is open. If not she'll be behind the sofa until about 7pm when she comes out to socialise with us. I wouldn't not have a base for her but that's a personal choice.

He did have a base but I suspect as it was an indoor cage with a high base it was more hassle than it was worth to get in and out of. I'll purchase a medium sized crate for him I think lifting off the ground with a very slight ramp might minimise foot fall too. ooooo I'm excited about it now.
