Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Kidney ish smell from rabbits!!!!1

caismeister

Alpha Buck
One of my trio (and not the 4th whos been bonded with them recently) their urine smells very kidney ish not sure if anyone knows what i mean but i work at a cattery and old cats with renal failure their urine smells like this. I don't know which one it is though but have an appointment at the vets tomorrow with my pup so may take them along too for checks. Will the vet be able to tell which one it is or by checking them all will he have an idea? Has anyone had a rabbit with a similar smelling urine?

The Vet may be able to detect abnormally large Kidneys by abdominal palpation.
Expressing the Buns bladder would enable the Vet to test the Urine for signs of abnormalities.

Have your Rabbits been wormed with Fenbendazole as a precaution against EC, especially as a new Rabbit has been introduced ?

The fact that there is a new Bun on the block might make one or more of the other Buns excrete unusually smelly wee. How many Bucks in the group?

I suspect the smell *might* be from your origional Buck as a mark of ownership of his territory after a new Buck has been introduced.
