  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

VetCall is the out of hours vet service. In Leicester it's based at the PDSA hospital, i don't know if this is the same throughout the UK or even if it is in other places.

I really don't like it...and just wondered if there is anywhere else if I need it!

I use the vets in coalville they have a vet on call overnight,so you can meet them at practice or they come out to you
The specialist vets george went to in derby have a vet and nurse who stay over night at the vets i was very impressed:)

My own vet in Birstall uses Vetcall, but King Richards doesnt (theyre sometimes used for the fosters)...... I must say though, having had to use both emergency services, the Sunday call out price was similar (£80) but I do have a preference!

Hi,
We use Park Vets on Saffron Lane and they operate their own emergency service, but it's usually located at the practice on Dominion Road, Glenfield. I like our vet at Saffron Lane called Helen, as she is quite keyed up on small animals/exotics.
Not the cheapest though.

i go to park too, on scraptoft lane. bramblab had to go to the emergency one in glenfield a few sundays ago. charged £50 just for consultation. they are good though.
