Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Quick Rex/Hock Question....

Sooz

Wise Old Thumper
In your experiences, what impact does a linoleum floor have on rex hocks in a rabbit that has already experienced problems?

Thanks

Yep :(

Im assuming I would be right in thinking carpet is far worse than Lino? How do they get on with vetbed?

Vet bed would be preferable to lino or carpet as it is thicker. Anything that is deep enough for there claws to sink into to take the weight off their hocks is best.

As Jane said, very deep hay is probably best

Im thinking in terms of a free ranging house bunny, I dont think OH would appreciate anymore straw on the floor

Weve had both Sun and Luna on carpet and neither have experienced problems. They also have vetbed and blankets etc in their pens...they dont dare go on the lino in the kitchen so i dont know about that, i would imagine that would cause problems as their hocks are so thinly coated and delicate

Im probably worrying too much, its just she was over weight and has already has hock issues.

My two seem fine on laminate flooring and vet bed, however rough carpet is not their friend, it needs to be a deep pile, unfortunately mine's not.
