Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbits with no back legs?

Gem

Wise Old Thumper
Is there any possibility of a rabbit surving having both back legs amputated?

Has it ever been done before?

I have heard of one bun being done - she gave up after a couple of weeks :( I truly wouldn't recommend it :( I think it's better to let them have the legs even if they don't work :(

Is Stripes getting worse Gem? :(

I don't really think its fair to let a rabbit live with no back feet. They love to jump around and wouldn't be able to do that very well with only the front. feet:cry:

I have heard of it being done but I really think its a case of just because it can be done dosn't mean it should be.

Oh I know that, was just wondering. Its not really an option for us anyway :(

She can't do that anyway and she's never likely to again

She went downhill badly last week, looking at having the worst leg amputated as she's still bright and sound in mind :( Email coming your way as well ;)
