  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Need some advice!!!!! please!!!!!!

hi all

posted on a previous thred that bert had some white discharge on his nose. He is 7 months, a house bun and otherwise very happy and healthy (eating and pooing fine) I read up on snuffles in rabbits and took him straight to the vets yesterday.

The vet checked his teeth, temperature and had a good look over him. All seemed to be fine, he had an injection of marbocyl P and is now taking it in pill form for 8 days as well as bio lapis which I have to put in his water.

He is eating plenty of hay and eating all his food but I am still unsure as to what is wrong with him. He seems to be lacking in energy at the moment and seeping alot.

really need some advice????????

It sounds as though he has an Upper Respiratory Tract Infection. Hopefuly the Marbocyl will get on top of the infection and Bert's symptoms will resolve.
He may be more lethargic than usual as he probably feels a bit 'off colour'.
Just make sure he continues to eat and poo normally. Also, as he is a House Bun he may be effected by central heating. This dries out the atmosphere and can irritate a Buns Respiratory Tract. You can help minimise this by turning down the heating and by using humidifiers.

update!!

Just got a humidifier for berts room, I have turned the heating down and am leaving the windows open for longer. He is still sneezing but very little and his nose is getting a bit better. He is also getting a bigger home next week as he has outgrown his own. Im going to get him a dog crate so he can be on different levels lol
