  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Eye Ulcer?

Brennan

Alpha Buck
I am really sad - I posted about my friends rabbit at the weekend as he had had dental surgery (thanks Jane BTW) but he now has an eye ulcer... I have never heard of this before I have heard of abscesses but never an ulcer :(

I feel so bad for her as she has had so many problems with her bunny  the vet is treating it but we just like to know everything IYKWIM

if anyone has any experience with this type of prob can you let me know x x x

I had a bun a few years ago who was a lionhead angora cross. She suffered with ulcers on her eyes for most of her life. They used to improve for a while with cream but then came back. At one point she had an operation to remove scar tissue from her eye, but ultimately the ulcers came back. She remained happy in herself and she got to aged 7.

thank you so much for your reply - am I correct in assuming that although they are v v painful - they are not as 'serious' as say an abscess - he is a lionhead as well - not sure if that is of any significance, she was worried he may lose the eye if it was an abscess :(

I have not had an experience with ulcers - only abscesses which are mean things
