Bunnie Bonding in the Bath

Fifibutton

Wise Old Thumper
Both Emrys and Rowaneberrie are cross breed rescues. He is about 9 months she is nearly 2 years. Emrys is really affectionate and licky and very hyper. Rowaneberrie is a little madam with a penchant for nipping. These two have seen each other before from side by side cages but Rowaneberrie bleated a lot. However It would lovely for both the bunnies and me if they were married so I began with the bathtub and it went quite well as you can see from these photos.

Side by side, no nipping

Emrys wonders " Is she a cushion?"

 awww - hope they are still getting along now - looks like she will be the bunny wearing the trousers

I reckon she will be. Emrys has been in love with her from first sight but it all depends on whether she grows to love him too.

There are a few tricks said to work when bonding buns, the bath tub being a neutral place is one, you can smear apple sauce or banana on a bunnies head ti encourage grooming, feed them a big pile of veg in the hope that they associate something tasty with each other and apparently a slightly stressful situation is supposed to bring them together. I wouldn't want to resort to that though.

Thank you, there are, I have to agree (very biased).

But they are both capable of mischief. Being in an echoy bathroom forced them to behave for once.

Awwwwh so lovely to see such a lovely couple.

So would you recommend the bath for bonds then? Don't they mind the slippery surface?

I am in despair as I have been trying to bond some of my buns for so long now and it's not happening.

Might try that.

Well this is the first time I've had to do it as all my other couples fell in love at first sight! Rowaneberrie is quite nippy, she is very hard to please and doesn't seem to like any other rabbits. I think she needs anger management. I wiped the bath clean and dried it with a towl so they didn't get wet. I thought they'd slip about all over it but the managed to walk quite easily and get up hi jinks. Considering what a grumpy bossy boots Rowaneberrie is, I would reccomend the bath becuase she became very submissive and let the wee man have his way.

I think I may try that tomorrow then as I am desperate to get my two single house buns living together. He hates slidey floors and she goes everywhere meaning he normally cowers in the litter tray when I have tried them before on neutral territory.

Sounds like a plan.

Have to admit personally Im not keen on using the bath for bonding unless there is some kind of non-slip mat in the base. Its so slippery I have awful visions of smashed limbs (and the bills that go with them ).

Both my kitchen and my bathroom are in use at the moment for bonding.

Hope they continue to get on well.

I think it does freak them out a bit. I suppose they are too freaked out to fight. My two stayed side by side without violence (a miracle) for comfort I guess. Good luck with your two.

Thanks Sooz. I was wary at first but I'm desperate to have them paired so finally went with the bath. Our bath is so old now too, the bottom is quite worn although the sides are still slippery. Initially I'd put a towel down for them but Emrys scrabbled it away towards the plughole

Well I have managed to get Cassius and Lexie eating side by side and both have a history of 'bunny hate', so I would say anything is possible. :)

Good on you. It must be stressful running a rescue but its somthing I aspire to do too one day. I'd better stock up on wine before then though
