went to PAH today (trip of 36 miles) to stock up on rabbit stuff. they had a special offer on excel, and excel Junior +dwarf but not the excel lite which 4 of my buns eat! i asked one of the assistants who quite clearly could not be bothered to listen to me and ran off to get the manager...........i asked why the offer did not apply to to the lite (it was a buy 1 get 1 free deal) to be told that it's because it has different ingredients !!!! i pointed out that there were only minor differences in the ingredients.....where by the manager then proceeded to go into detail about rabbit diet and that hay should be more important.
i then pointed out to him that if i went to a supermarket and they had a special offer on Heinz soup it would apply equally to all the different soups regardless of the ingredients............
i asked for head office contact details and he disappeared and after waiting returned and said i would get it on their website. have come home to discover they are awaiting a new website...........
i did not buy anything from them today......will probably be boycotting them now for being unfair and unhelpful.
i did also point out to them that in general the company did not have a good reputation and today's incident certainly has not helped them either!!

I don't think you can really have a go at P@H for that! In tesco's at the weekend some of their sandwiches fillers were buy 2 for £2.50, but only the horrible ones which no one buys!

Sometimes shops reduce the price or place offers for stock that doesn't sell well, maybe the lite is the more popular of the range.

Things like BOGOF offers are arranged between the retailer AND the manufactuerer - so it's not just down to PAH but also Excel (or whoever makes it!). Frustrating but 'tis life

i have just e-mailed the PAH head office for an explanation...........i also checked out the web site for Excel and beside the standard excel and junior/dwarf products it says that stocks are running low so why would the manufacturer decide on a special offer deal?

I have just come back from P & H too:)they have a BOGOF on large bags of hay in my local one:)
They are also selling gorgeous little toy bunnies (and other pets) in aid of rescues:)which i was impressed with:)
The staff were very helpful and i was able to give some advice to a woman whose bunny had just given birth (again:shock::?) and NO she didnt get it from P & H she got two from a "friend" and of course they were male and female
I really do think that this store is getting it,s act together (hope they are not going to let me down on this ) it certainly seemed to have improved:)
The young giant is still there and he is getting BIG:rolleyes:took all my willpower to walk away and not buy him :cry:he is such a gorgeous boy and i have fallen for him:oops:;)

Maybe I'm missing the point but what's wrong with this?

Must admit went to my local P@H last night and was amazed at how much bunny stuff they now have, treats as well as other stuff, I was impressed with what they had that is more natural and not high in sugar and nothing else. And yes i am now in love with a Big Boy who is grey and sooo sweet but he did have another big bunny in with him! so hes not alone! phew for me and the wallet!

Youd have to walk them out in a lead wouldnt you! couldt really pick them up lol

Like others have said, it may well be excel or the wholesaler who have decided the terms of the deal and to be honest the store was well within their rights to more or less tell you it was tough luck! Sounds promising that the store manager was promoting the importance of hay in the diet.

We have had 2 giant rabbits instore, the second one was a German Lop (£79) and she was with us for a fair few months. It's not that we didn't have any interest in her, believe me we did, but with the majority of requests to buy her we felt it was a novelty factor for them so we refused.

She ended up going to the lady who bought the first giant, and she was the same as you. She felt sorry because she'd been there so long. Alls well that ends well though. The two buns (both neutered, vacc'd, wormed etc...I bump into them all the time as they use the same vets as us lol) fell in love at first sight, have a room to themselves and two giant dog crates joined together for their 'house'. Spoilt buns ;)

I hope the reason the bun in your store had been there for so long was because they felt they hadn't found the right owner for him?

Well I'm quite upset by this - I went shopping in P@H a few days ago to stock up on Excel & paid full price cos they haven't started the offer:roll:

However, I did manage to get Carefresh 3 for the price of 2:)

Promotional offers are not decided by PAH, they are decided by the manufacturer who make and supply the product. The products are then offered to PAH for an agreed price and then sold under the terms of the promotional offer. If a certain product that is part of a range is not included in the offer that is down to the manufacturer NOT the shop. Bakers dog food is nearly always on offer, but the senior, lite, big dog and sensitive is rarely included, thats usually in a seperate offer. Dunno why, but thats down to Purina.

There's been a chinchilla German lop in my local P@H for ages bless him. He's getting really big now. Do giants end up in their adoption centres? I can't imagine how he's have enough space in one of those tiny cages!

i don't think so as (as far as i know) they only have one giant in at a time.
PAH don't decide the offers, the manufacture does... as with all stores im guessing?

Why not just get the normal excell-yes the lite on is a couple of per cent higher in fibre but with plenty of hay does that really make a difference? The lite was on offer a couple of months ago when the normal was still full price.

Yes under exceptional circumstances. We had a giant called Charlie who we put into adoption due to her having rickets. We (along with our vet) had tried all sorts to try and get her right. She started off with one slightly splayed leg which we thought was because her pen had quite a slippery floor and she was always moving the shavings when she moved, so we painted the floor with hutch stain and sand to give it some grip which worked wonders!! however after a couple of weeks her other leg started to splay, so we had her vaccinated and we were able to take her outside on a harness to run on the concrete and grass in the sun. This helped her to improve and our vet recommended she go for adoption, she did and she is now living in her very own shed and garden!! All of her treatment was under the advice of our vet, who is a genius!

Yeah that is it. Ive chased off a few people too  like yesterday for example when a man wanted to buy her for his little girl!
The girl in the shop really likes her though, and had given her a name and everything. :)

I am not a great lover of large pet shops as most will know , however on this one gill I am affraid I really struggle to see your point with p@h....this thing goes on in supermarkets all the time...try complaining in tesco's over the same type of issue.

On large bunnies.....A few years ago lionhead bunnies were all the rage, followed by dwarf lops(most of which turned out not to be). The result was these types made up the vast majority of rabbits coming into us .In the case of lionheads this resulted in "lionheads" from only little bits of long hair which were no problem right through to hopeless almost angora type but with a fluffy coat. These were and are a nightmare but in the quest for lionhead bunnies thats what sometimes comes out.

Sadly large and giant bunnies seem to be filling the latest must have bunny slot and I'm sure we will subsequently see an increased number coming to us. These present with their own set of problems and our normal standard requirement of 50square feet of permanent space for dwarf- medium bunnies goes right out the window. For true giants you must be looking at 3 x + this area to re-home them responsibly and remember they have all the requirements of other rabbits just an awful lot more of it.

They present with their own nightmare and it saddens us to see them sold in petshops who cannot even provide for sale the correct sized accommodation even if they do make some sort of token effort to be discriminating.I wonder what do these shops recommend you keep them in?.Just having them on view causes desire and some people will then just go out to get regardless.

Hearing the comments made on here by seasoned rabbit people "Awwww must have" just re-inforces this and I think the phrase "rabbits should not be sold in pet shops" applies more than ever to this type.
