piggy advice needed

sadly last night one of my little rescue piggies passed away  which now leaves theo his brother all alone, what should i do, will he be ok living on his own or should i get a baby boy to bond him with

You could get him neutered and get a couple of older rescue female pigs. He would be a very happy boy then :D I've had my boy done and he has 4 wives.

I have a friend who has a boar and got a baby boy as a friend and they are fine.

Definately get another pig for company.

I've bonded four of my single older boars with babies now with no problems, I would have gone down the neutering route but our vets charges a fortune for it!

lucky piggy with 4 wives!

I am sorry to hear that your guinea is all alone,i am sure a rescue centre will be able to help you find some companions for him

good luck

It's worth phoning round re vet charges. I use Abbey vets who are very good and reasonably priced.

Did I say Oscar has 4 wives? He actually has 3. Maybe he is sending me messages by telepathy, maybe the little monkey wants another sow

A companion would be best, but i have boys that fight with any other boy pig. I'm worried about getting them neutered when they are older as my 2 oldest boys were neutered (by a guinea pig specialist vet) and they now have huge hernias! (my other boys that were young when done are fine). I have a special hutch that separates 2 with mesh so they can't fight but have company (although i'm not too sure they appreciate it!!!!

I'd try a young boar, then if not get him neutered and get him some girl friends!!

And my vet charges £30 for a mate gp castrate, which is very reasonable, so i will be getting my boys done as soon as i can.

There is a lovely piggy called sweep (that I really really want) on the rabbit in need section looking for a new boar friend after losing his brother!?! Might work?! :D

That is good, ours was nearer £70!

Mine too.

Even though I rescue and rehome guinea pigs I haven't neutured any yet. Only because I've managed to pair up every male pig so far.

Out of my own pigs, I have paired up an adult who was agressive to other adults with a baby, and they are still getting on well now and the baby has grown up and matured now.

Most pigs prefer to be in the company of other pigs, this may not necessarily be in the same cage, but can be side by side too.

Give the pig some time to grieve and then try him with another pig and see what happens.

i am sorry to hear bout your piggy passing.

I have 4 boars. 2 that are solo boars.

Donnie is not keen on piggy company since his friend Buddy passed away. We tried him with 3 baby piggies and even a neutered female, but he was over dominent towards them. Donnie prefers his humans

Douglas is the most special of all my 8 piggies. He had a really horrible "piglethood", and went months without treatment for mites. He has a few behaviour problems. He bites any piggies he is introduced to. He even nibbles us humans sometimes. Especcially if hes having a bath. So he is happier in the company of his humans (to a minimum ).

I believe piggies should have company of their own kind, but sometimes they make it difficult to achieve that goal.

good luck with finding a companion for your remaining piggy....and my girls send nose rubs to him :D
