Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Syringe feeding Mimi now :(

Wish me luck. She hasn't been eating well, a tummy rub helped before but this morning she really held out, so we took her to the vet. Her dr. isn't in and there isn't another vet who treats bunnies in this city :( A tech. showed me how to syringe feed and struggled herself to get some into my baby. I'm so worried, I can't begin to say. The hospital isn't even open tomorrow...We do have a follow up on Mon. (for her ear infection, and now this), but it's so frightening. It's always something...

Lots of vibes for Mimi.

If you can keep her warm and try to get her to move around a bit, it will help stimulate her guts.

When Dougal had a tummy problem I spent hours sitting massaging his stomach with my fingers in circular motions, and moving down towards his rear, to try and get things moving again. It worked eventually, and he did Giant poos, not like rabbit pellets at all!

I tried pineapple juice too, but couldn't get him to take it.

If you just sit with her on your lap and try that, it might have some effect. I feel for you, it's a scary time.. *hugs*

Good luck! :)

Thanks. She's ok w/ pineapple, but there's no getting her to sit on my lap :(

I had problems with one of mine at Christmas (it always seems to be when vets are not readily available!).

Every hour I tried to syringe feed her (as advised by vet), got her to move around and then tummy rubs. It was a continuous cycle but eventually it worked. We also kept her inside where it was nice and warm and gave her water with a dash of boiling in to make it room temperature. Try to syringe feed her some water if you can, maybe wish a dash of pineapple in if she likes it to encourage extra fluids. She was also given metacloprimide by the vet and we continued to give it to her.

We also got in lots of different herbs/veg to try to encourage her to eat on her own.

I hope Mimi is feeling better soon.

Update

Mimi's so much better today, after 2 trips to the vet yesterday! (second one to make sure *some* food gets into her). I felt so awful having to do that but the vet she saw was excellent with her and later that night (she totally knew what was going on) when I tried feeding her w/ the syringe, she ran over to start eating hay!!!

And this morning, I was excited beyond words to find her droppings - the healthiest she'd had in 3 days!!
