...that petshops wouldn't sell such small hutches.
I was on my way to work today and walked past a pet shop in Leicester and they were selling a 'guinea pig' hutch. It wasn't much more than 2.5ft long, had a small bed area and the 'open' bit was literally all open, three sides of wire. wtf?! :censored:

if any one considered buying this then they may as well keep they're guinea pig in a shoe box or biscuit tin.

My guinea pig is in a 4x2x2ft hutch and i think it's small

So damn stupid. grrr

i went to pets@home to get an indoor cage for my rabbit 2 days ago. The first one i saw said...regal rabbit home. It wasnt very big, was top opening and was intended for indoors. The P@H were selling it as a guinea pig cage! i spoke to the staff and asked them that whilst it was good they were admitting it was too small for an indoor rabbit...why on earth were they selling it at all? can they guarantee that whomever buys it, that its not for some poor rabbit? why make money for companies that think its okay to sell teeny cages like that?

The cage i got in the end, is still what i would class as a small size, however my rabbit has free range of the house, and the cage is permentantly open for him to come and go as he pleases, except when we go to bed at night. This regal cage, was top opening, how a rabbit was meant to get in and out...i dont know.

The reasons you've stated are the reasons why I advise everybody against it. At a first glance it looks a bit different, but once you explain how impractical it is, people agree and walk away from it.
I think the company knows it was an error to stock it. Hopefully it won't be around for long.

Unfortunately somebody I know bought one of those. They saw Nigel (our giant house bunny) and decided it would be great to have one themselves.
Nigel has free reign in the house and never gets locked up, but theirs spent most of his time in that horrible cage until he outgrew it. He's in a wooden hutch now, but I think he's going to be a giant aswell so he'll soon outgrow that too.... :(

My pet shop sells a 36" single storey hutch which is only about 1.5ft with about 1ft height and 1ft depth. Tiniest hutch and it's still about £40!!!!! So bad.

Not sure I understand? Is it 36" in length, or 1.5ft? Or is the 1.5ft a different dimension? But then you said height and depth are 1ft each... am confused

But I agree, it makes me so sad when the biggest hutch that a shop sells is 4ft or less :( Especially when they market the 4ft hutches as 'deluxe' rabbit homes

I wouldn't touch any hutches from pet shops. I've had all mine made to my requirements. Why do pet shops feel the need to sell hutches which are far too small? Wonder what their answer would be.
