New Kit
Hi,

I have a french lop, she is two year old now and looks pretty overweight. I took her to the vet recently as she didn't seem herself as she is usually causing havoc around the house but recently has not been coming out of her hutch.

The vet seemed to think she was overweight and we put her on a special diet for 4 weeks. Low calorie nuggets morninng and night and only hay and grass during the day.

To be honest she has been on this diet now for quite a while since i thought she was gaining weight. In the 4 weeks the vet had her on the diet she actually gained 2lb and now weights 6.2kg.

The vet seems convinced it is not actually fat and is infact a build up of fluid in the abdomen, however she is unsure as she does not specialise in rabbits. I am in the process of now trying to find a vet that specialises in rabbits but would like any information on what this could possibly be??

Does anyone have any ideas? She is starting to become more lively again now and is coming out of her hutch more but she is still not back to her old self. Also the fact that she is gaining weight when she has been on a very strict diet worries me.

Please can someone else or suggest any ideas?

Sarah

What part of the UK are you in? Someone may be able to reccommend a better vet. Don't really have any other ideas but I'm sure someone else more knowledgeable will be along soon.

Hi,

I live in North Manchester, i have a few ideas of where to try first but there doesn't seem to be anyone nearby that knows anything about this problem.

If you go to jackson n nuttall in middleton there is a good savvy vet there called lynne page this is who i always use.

Hi,

That is the vet who told us to go somewhere else. I have always used Lynn as she is extremely good with all my animals but she said she doesn't specialise in rabbits and it wojuld be best to use someone who do.
Jackson and Nutall are my local vets as i live in Midleton.
