Hi,

I've just got back from the vet with Thumper where he's had tooth spurs removed. (2nd time in 2 weeks! this time at a different vet who seems far more rabbit savvy)

The problem seems to be his teet are misaligned and the upper teeth dont fit properly with the bottom so its when rather than if he needs them done again. The vet also said his front upper teeth are also very very short (only a couple of milimeter showing)

My question is

If he's 15 months old now but no previous sign of a problem, how long will it be before he needs another dental op? (The vet wants to see him in 6 weeks to check up on him. Is it likely that any spurs will have regrown that quickly?). I read that diet can affect tooth growth and he does have plenty of hay and some veg so hopefully that will help.

I know this is probably a daft question but can anything be done for mis aligned teeth?
 
One of my bunnies has aligned teeth.He had a dental in September and touch wood has been fine since:D
 
If your rabbit had malaligned front teeth they can be removed, from what you have said they are not. With back teeth you can minimise the need for further treatment by getting them on a VERY high fibre diet which is mainly hay. The only way you can do this is by seriously reducing the amount of dried food they are given. Green vegetables are fine for them.

I feed hay and veg everyday anyway. I have also given a small handful of pellets in the past, but I can easily stop them. Especially if it will help prevent problems. The last couple of weeks have been awful.

I feed exactly the same and Fudge has had no problems at all:D

The higher fiber diet the better, hay is the best thing to give to minimise problems, however it wont stop them if the teeth are not rubbing each other. It will however minimise problems which is the best you can do.
 
we had a lop who had only a couple of back teeth on her right side...
she ate fine for at least 2 years before she died of a stroke
