Saturday night had a tiny piece of apple (only allowed once a week)
sunday morning she had couple pieces of cecal not ate , could be though cos it was stuck to a big bit of megazorb and maybe didn't see it. It dropped off on floor when she came out!
SUnday she was eating pellet and veg fine and hay!
Monday morning she had not eaten all her hay which is unusual for her lately and she had a bit of messy bum again!
Started to worry as decrease in hay eating was a sign before when she went inot GI Stasis!
Again today a bit of messy bum , not eating as much hay as usual and her poo got a tiny bit small ans he is eating her raisons a bit!
Started on avipro (probotic) yesterday and as it's sweet she is drinking a lot of it!
So thinking we should take her to vet tonight incase she is on her way to Stasis again!
Just waiting for vet to open and will make appointment!
Could it be storm spooked her? Can this cause this???
Advice please!
hmmm - well I wouldn't give her apple again, and I would cut out veg and cut pellets down to a couple of teaspoons for a day or 2 as well - and give lots of fresh hay twice a day incase she's being picky over it, but yes it does sound like the start of stasis and it could be the storm distracted her from eating :?

with reference to the apple she has been fine only having it once a week!
i think it is a coincidence and that she is sickening for something!
Thought it was too good to be true, everyone elses bun seemed poorly and she was fine! should of kept my mouth shut!
Right no veg for dinner!
Will ring vets in a minute!

oooh good thinking! has she had teeth problems before?
No never!
She is still eaten some hay but not as much as usual!
We have just given her a reduced dinner which consisted of just a small spring green leaf, to try get her eating more hay,
She is eating her raisons as litter tray changed this morning and only 7 poos 4 of them joined by bit of fur. is there now!
She is drinking plenty because she has a avipro plus in there for 24hrs now!
She has a messy bum looks like uneaten cecals.
Her tummy we are pretty sure feels a bit bigger! I have heard a little gurgling and she wasn't drinking at the time!
o/h reckons her tum is a bit bigger but soft, and I feel the same!
She is booked in at 5past 5 at animed in gosport but it is not her usual vet it's someone called suzanne, but at least it not the useless vet we saw the other week!
Will get vet to check her ears aswell and see what they say if got mites and if they say not treatable I will scream as might mean she knows not alot about rabbits aswell although receptionist said has treated lots of rabbits!
god i wish caroline or robin was on tonight!:(

her tummy is fine , no blockage, not gassy or bloated!
Vet gave her gut stimulant injection, just in case, said keep eye on her if goes down over next 24hrs take her back! and carry on with avipro plus! Vet said it probably was the storm that spooked her as she decreased her hay eating that night and at 5.45am in the morning she was a bit more cuddly with us than usual so think was frightened as the noise outside was loud all night like someone had a hoover on!
Asked her to look at ears cos last vet said got mites, she said what did he give her for it , we said nothing he said no treatment, she gave a concerned look , i said it was a vet called mark, she said oh the south african guy, he is a good vet but in south africa rabbits are vermin so he doesn't know much about them or think they can be treated:shock:
In our book that is not a "good vet"!
She said just build up of wax and gave us some Cleanaurol to start when she is back to normal and fine to put in ears 1 drop each ear once a day for a week and massage base of ear when put it in!
Cost us £55.00 for some more avipro, cleanaurol, and we had to pay a £28 consultation charge!
Still we now have peace of mind that hopefully nothing untoward happening!
Bloody expensive storm if you ask me:evil:

At least she's okay, have you ever tried giving infacol, Charlie is quite prone to going off his food when he's been disrupted too much but (touch wood) so far some infacol, tummy rubs and a chase around has sorted him out.

We have some but are not quite sure if it's ok just to give it if notice she is off one of her foods that she has.
if this had been middle of night then probably would of given her some (2ml isn't it every hour) till we went to vet if she was starting to show more signs of not being well:)

It's inert so it doesn't do them any harm, I usually find two doses of the stuff and Charlie perks up, I give it at the first sign of there being anything wrong, luckily I've only had to do it 3 times.

So as soon as you notice they off one of their foods you give the infacol!
it it 2mls every hour! Will they lick it off spoon or do you have to force feed it into mouth?

Pretty much yeah, but if it happened frequently I'd take him in to see what was causing it, its only happened 3 times in jsut over a year.
I use a plastic syringe but he's quite good at taking it and the less I have to pin him down the more willing he is, I usually just hold him down a bit by the shoulders and pop it in the side of the mouth, he can be stubborn sometimes though.

So the Vet didnt check her teeth then :?
GI problems are usually a secondary symptom to another condition.
Infacol is OK to give for gas in the intestines but if the stomach (top of abdomen just below the ribs) is distended and not emptying Infacol can actually make matters worse.
Glad she is feeling better :)

No she didn't, kicking myself cos when we were waiting said make sure she checks her teeth!
She didn't then I swore like hell when got home and realised she didn't check her teeth!
I stayed up ll night with bunnie picking out her favourite bits of hay. she was running around fine and eating pellet and veg fine and drinking!
Today she has hardly touched any hay! She is still eating rest of food fine and happy in her self,
there is no sign of dribbling or ansign of discomfort when she does it a piece of hay! O/H went out and bought new bag of the oxbow timothy hay and some oat hay to try intice her just incase the other new bag only opened at weekend was off, but she is still not eating hay!
Other problem we have is she has been cleaning herself up by bum and is consuming the poo stuck to the fur as we cannot always grab it off her!
So she is consuming fur, plus shedding winter coat, she is passing some fur every now and then in the poo but as she is not eating hay how is the fur gonna pass through!
She is going back to vet tomorrow as we are too late now unless i see a sign of discomfort and any sign off decreasing poo amount or pellet or veg eating tonight then its of to out of hours! Will get teeth checked and I want her started on fibreplex and stuff as I put money on it she s gonna go into stasis in couple of days!
Last time we knew what caused it and it took 6 days for her gut to stop, this time we have no idea why this is happening unless there is something wrong with teeth or inside her tummy!
Sorry for long post!
god i am so tired! been up all night at work all day and gonna stay up all night again tonight then got work again! I doing night duty while O/H doing day duty!

I have seen on here if a bun is not eating hay people mush up some pellet and cut up some hay and put it in the mush pellet!
Shal we try this with Bunnie or could we maybe upset her tum by doing this in this consistency (i.e could she be sensitive to mushed pellet)
If you would advise this how exactly do you do it and how much.
Her pellet is Exel Dwarf/Junior (we were about to wean her over to the lite one as it contains more fibre (excel does not upset her tum and she can't have SS because of the Alfalfha) but then this happened so is now delayed)
So pellet Excel dwarf/junior
hay - Oxbow timothy hay
How much pellet?
How much hay?
How much water and what temperture?
And do you leave it to go cold or tiny bit warm!

|Don't know whether is relevant but as buns sometimes eat hay when bored, and as she is not eating hay she has been chewing a tea towel of door step of her crate every now and then, she is licking her rabbit toy raymond more, and trying to chew a piece of board under the table that she sits on now this is strange as bunnie is not a chewer!
Any thoughts? Can they do this if teeth problem?:(
I'd take her back straight back to the vet Caroline, she doesn't sound good :(

Hi. I found that Exel Lite gave mine an upset tim. I use Oxbow Bunny Basics T (timothy hay based) which gives out very good poops.
You may be better getting her checked again as if there are any blockages any type of force feeding could make things worse. You could ask your vet for some Science Recovery (I always keep some in for emergency now) if they confirm no blockage.
When one of my buns had statis she drank more water when I put a dash of boiling in (to make it room temperature) and left it in a bowl for her to drink. I also syringe fed it to make sure she got plenty. They suspected hair had caused her blockage.
However, it would be wise to get her to a vet to get those teeth checked. Might be an indication if she is eating strange things???
Hope she feels better soon.

oh didn't realise it was for force feeding, not doing that as she is eating just not hay apart from few bits!
She is drinkinng as she has Avipro plus in her water (probotic)
and she is as normal in herself!
Are taking her back to vet tommorrow to check teeth and tum again!
Was exactly is Science recovery do you have to force feed it and when/what circumstances can it be used!

Last night she started eating more hay but was virtually nothing really!
Last ate some spring green and hay at 2.30am and poo'd and drank.
This morning didn't want pellet or veg and had stopped pooing and drinking:cry:
Got her out of dog crate chased her round front room.
Every now and then she was grinding her teeth.
Refused to drink water even though it had avipro in which she loves!
Gave tummy rubs tried to get some water in her but only managed 1ml.
Got her to see vet at 9.20 luckily our usual vet Robin.
He felt her tummy, said no blockage not even gasy.
When he felt the upper part of her adomen it was painful for her.
He then done a 5 minute check of her teeth and mouth, no problems teeth are fine!
Gave her painkiller/anti-inflamitry and gut stimulant and gave us some critical care to give to her!
we said we want her admitted to the hospital because it is a struggle getting it into her , it needs both of us to do it and I had to go to work and wayne struggles to catch her to pin her down because of his cystic fibrosis.
We offered to take her to the Animed Shedfield hospital and he said great cos otherwise would have to wait till 11.
On the way Wayne gave her a father to daughter serious/tearful talk, telling her she has to get better and fight this as he fights his illness.
I said offer her some of her celery, trimmed beans ,pellet and drink see if she will.
She ate all the celery:shock:, then proceeded to eat 2 of the beans had some water with the probotic in but then didn't want any more food.
phoned at 3 Robin keeps going from his surgery in gosport up to shedfield hospital to check on her.
He said got there and she was running around the pen and stuffing her face with pellet, greens and some hay and had done about 20 poos:p
He said he wants to keep her in too see what happens when the injections wear off.
He said he doubts any liver problem because she would be poorly in general, he is inclined and hoping that she has eating something that she shouldn't of done and that it has caused indigestion. He is going to go back tomorrow and phone me to let me know how she is going and what happens. If she goes downhill again when meds worn off he said we will investigate with more tests, and an x-ray as scan not sensitive enough! He mentioned possibly liver problems, hepatitus, or pancreas but fells she would be poorly all the time.
We have given her no new foods and as far as we know not eaten anything she shouldn't of but as you know with buns you never know:roll:
I inquired about Oxbow bunny basics T and for a 2.25kg bag they can order in for us £6.75 inc vat so hopefully when better are going to wean her onto this so she is getting a better pellet.
We are hoping it is indigestion caused by stress maybe storm as she went off hay that night or that she has eaten something she shouldn't of done,
Hope this is not something more serious:cry:
Sorry for long post.

Thanks were just hoping she is being a pain in the **** and it's not something more serious, just a waiting game now.
We feel very assured with vet as he keeps driving the 15 odd miles to the hospital when he has no patients as he wants to keep a very close eye on her and treat her along with the vet Caroline who is usually based at the hospital.
When I popped into gosport vet on way home from work to see how much bunnie basics pellet was and if they could get it for me for a later date, he popped his head out to call in a patient and saw me and asked me to come in for a chat. He is really caring and concerned about her!
Hope Bunnie is back to normal soon.

Thanks Jane, we spoke to vet this morning about the critical care and he said for us it would be good to have it in as Bunnie always stops eating hay when something up with her gut, he said it be good to have this in and start offering it to her and if she takes it, it gives her a head start before getting to vets!

Thanks sooz,
Only thing we can think of if it is something she has eaten is we opened a new bag of Oxbow timothy hay on saturday, and maybe this was off or something as it was during the middle of sunday night she started to not eat it as usually in the morning it's all gone. The only other thing is the heavy wind and rain sunday night spooked her but then don't understand why this would put her off just eating hay and not everything.
Vet thinks it strange that had gut stimulant Tuesday evening , wednesday started eating a few bits of new bag of the hay we bought her that day, and in evening was getting excited about eating her hay, and then during night stops eating everything , stops pooing, drinking and is in pain. Gives her meds and within 15mins of journey to hospital starts drinking and eating again but not hay! All the time she is her lively, bouncing self and stuffing her face of everything but hay!

They said phone in the morning 9.30 to see how she was and Robin will phone me around lunchtime when he has checked her to discuss whether she can come home or stay in till saturday to give her time to see if she deteriates with no meds in her:cry:
This would then possibly mean there is something wrong internally:cry:
It's horrible without her here, keep looking up to see where she is and what she's upto:cry:
Fingers crossed it is indigestion due to either bad hay/eating something that shouldn't of done or just stressed by something or storm and cos other vet on tuesday didn't give fibreplex or anything just gut stimulate and as a result of her non hay eating she started stasis!:(

Awww, just caught back up with this. I am glad she is feeling better, they do this to frighten us!
Last week katy was lying down in the middle of the grass (which she does not normally do) and was just not herself, however she was eating drinking and pooping and she felt OK when I examined her. I got plenty of fluids down her, got her moving around a bit more and made sure she ate some hay. The next day she was right as rain! However I did notice that there was lots of hair in her poop so maybe I just caught her in time with the extra fluid to help it through her system. Maybe this is similar to what Bunnie was going through?
I believe critical care is similar to Science recovery, I always have some in just in case now. My two love Bunny Basics (ordered through vet), even though it is a bit more expensive you can see the difference in their poops.

Bunnie's Home, she has been fine so far without any meds, the vet said she does not have any pain anymore.
Obviously we have to keep an eye on poops and hay eating!
At first when home she didn't want her Oxbow timothy hay so have just been and bought some of the old s***y hay she use to eat last year, and she is now eating this instead of the good quality that is in her wicker basket:roll:
I went to our local vet and picked up her Oxbow Bunnie Basics, and vet gave me some Critical Care to keep in to offer her if goes of hay again as Avipro in the water is not enough as it is just a top up of vitamins fibre and probotics.
He said if worried just take her along to him.
Just given her 4 bits of the oxbow pellet and she turned her nose up at them, told her she better start liking them cos you'll be weaned onto them in a couple of weeks time, and then she ate them!
Bunnie say's thanks for the vibes and hugs and sais she'll try stay healthy from now on and not scare us to death, again:roll:
Got to go now as she sat in her dog basket waiting for cuddles!

I do hope she gets better. Lots of healthy <<<VIBES>>> coming your way.
I'm sure rabbits don't eat all night anyway - mine go for hours in the day not eating or pooing - they just sleep for hours, and I guess they have the same 'down time' in the night. I wouldn't worry if she's pooed and eaten around midnight - maybe she's just not hungry, and if you're offering her pellets and veg constantly she won't want hay - I think that's quite normal for bunnies.
My rabbits seem to have a nibble of hay around 5am, then a snooze till breakfast (small handful pellets) at 9am, then a run and a poo/wee (Maa does barely any poo and no wee while she's in her hutch) then they get hay at 10am, which they eat for an hour before going into 'down time' when they just sleep and eat their caecal poops - They'll eat more hay around 3pm till they get let out at 4pm, and they have veg at 5pm, all gone in minutes, then more hay and pellets at 9pm - so it seems my rabbits eat barely anything compared to yours and I'm wondering if she's just not hungry if food is being offered continually?

Hmmm we had a run of 3 being unwell out of our group of five recently. Thankfully a bit of syringe feeding and encouragement to move and they were all fine a couple of hours later, but when I spoke to my vet about it she said dont worry if they appear not to eat much in period overnight because they quite often dont. So maybe she's just full and resting? Hope she doing ok this morning. Sending lots of vibes for her x x

We have a theory that at the vets they did not feed her much food maybe as her tums felt really empty.
As last night after 5 hours of not pooing we gave her some pellet at which point 30 mins later she poo'd and then started munching hay, the last time she ate hay and poo'd was between 2 and 3am. Was refusing fluids.
Through out the night the only food she would get is a tiny not even worth it piece of either spring green or half trimmed bean at 2 hour intervals even though she kept scrounging for more we didn't give any to her to force her to eat hay, which wasn't working until after her breakfast of pellet, followed by poo then hay eating in small amount and then fluid intake.:D
She is now chilling in her litter tray.:)
She ate her ceacals in the night we know this by after her looking like she was, we smelt her breath just to confirm that she was and not cleaning self down there and consuming the poo fur:roll:
She will not be given any more food now and hopefully will eat hay if not we will give her a tiny bit of veg like vet suggested so she has something going in stomach as he does not want her gut to slow and stop again.
Bunnie is a bun with a sensitive stomach and it seems will be prone to gut slow down /stasis.:(
yeah there's a few rabbits on here like that - it's just a genetic thing with some of them :( Have you tried bromelain tablets or anything like that - they help keep the gut contents moist so they can pass through rather than build up?

Bunnies definitely have 'down time' during the night. I know from having been up with a bunny with stasis. The other healthy bunny would look at me as if to ask why I was disturbing them, and was all sleepy and not eating/pooing.

Going to buy some today, she has just eaten anther load of cecals.!
Poor thing she is so thin. On wednesday i took note of how much coul feel her shoulder blades, and on thursday at vet she weighed 2.20kg so she had dropped as her norm weight before was 2.23kg
Now she is a bag of bones you can feel every bone in her body and you can clearly see her pelvis when she is in her chocolate mousey postition which is all legs under her and head resting on front paws.
:(
yeah and with them being diurnal they have a sleep in the day too - well mine do anyway. They don't drink a lot either - Benny has one drink in the morning, and one drink in the evening - his bowl's usually nearly full and I never see him drink except after his pellets. The girls seem to drink a bit more, but Maa goes all day with nothing to drink - prefers to drink twice a day properly, with just a sip other times.

Yeah during the night though everytime we walked in from the kitchen she went mad doing her give/wheres my food routine of honking round round in circles and jumping all over place, so we though must be hungry, so go eat hay, but with bunnie it's always the hay she goes off when she gets stomach problems.
Bunnie usually always polishes off a tonne of hay during the night so it all gone by time i get up at 6.15, which is how we can tell like on monday when she is getting poorly as it was all left untouched!

Has she been treated for e-cuniculi?

We have to watch out for bun she can only have 1 treat of sugary food a week and a tiny piece at that as it upsets her tum. She only has either banana, apple, pear or piece of carrot. do they have a high sugar content?
Will give her one then wait 2 days see if tum ok then give another and hopefully if ok with them will give one every other day when moulting????
Do you agree?:) or suggest different
she had a 9 day course of panacur recently about 2 months ago after learning on here it is something that should be done every year whether showing signs of it or not.
Other than her gi stasis before xmas and now , bunnie is a healthy bun!
yeah the tablets are mainly sugar, so that could cause problems if she's sensitive that way :(
I had a theory a while back that e-cuniculi could cause stomach problems - the treatment is a 6 week course of panacur as it's a stubborn little parasite. Mind you I've also heard on the forum that panacur can cause stomach upset in a very few bunnies - maybe she's one of those few? It's a bit like being a detective when it comes to their stomach problems isn't it?

When she had the panacur she didn't have messy bum at all, when we asked the vet for some panacur he said he sees no reason to treat her but we said we want to do the precaution dose anyway as it doesn't hurt.
I will go get the tablets but we won't start with them untill she back to normal.
She has been injesting alot of fur lately as she is shedding winter coat and when cleaning her bum any poo stuck in fur she pulls out and eats along with the fur and occasionly last week and beginning of this week had some poos strung together with small amount of fur.
We will also in a week or two if she is over this start to wean her onto the oxbow bunnie basics T so she gets high fibre pellet!
Thanks for advise elve it's much appreciated:)
Bunnies just floped on her side in litter tray for a nap so this shows she is ok in herself!

Yeah Wayne says I panic too much but then I think he is to calm:roll:
Last time and first time of stasis before xmas i had a feeling she was going to be ok, but this time all i have had is a bad feeling that we were going to lose her:cry:
She is happy in herself and wanting lots of cuddles and last night was being really naughty trying to chew everything in site. Usually when she is bored she eats hay so she is trying to find substitutes so we are watching her like a hawk as don't want anything going in her stomach and making her worse!
She licked my face for 5mins non stop at 3am and then turned her back on me at which point i started pulling out loose fur, and to my  she didn't run away like usual, she even sat there and let me go underneath her bum and on inside of back legs and tug out the matted fur:shock: and did not flinch once which was amazing as this is not a Bunnie done thing! She allowed me to do this 3 times in all after giving me a good clean!
last time she came out of hospital she came home and we found she had discovered the art of thumping when wanted something or we were too slow at putting food down, this time she appears to now be ok with me touching her bum and cleaning around that area, instead of the usual way which means a pinning down by wayne while i carefully cut away poo and tangled fur! I attempted to pick her up during the night just to see if she wouldn't mind this but no such luck she was outta there like a shot:roll::lol:

Lots of healing vibes for Bunnie ~*~*~
damp hands are great for getting loose hair out too - I just dip my fingertips in a dish of water, rub the water all over my hands, stroke bunny, rub hands in a circular motion so the hair stuck to them goes into a ball, then reapeat - I got this much off Maa in about 10mins when she was moulting last year  Oh and dry cornflour worked in with your fingernails is good for tangled up pooey bums too - it makes the tangles slip out and the dirt slides off :)

 that's what i call a fur ball!
yeah we have been doing bunnie's grooming like that as she hates brushes, sometimes we use a flannel aswell. No way she allow us near her bum though although this maybe a different case now after last nights grooming sessions that we had (quality mother daughter time).
She still appears to be eating some of her raisons which is a pain because it hard to tell if pooping unless stay up with her all night as i have done, but she done this last time untill she was back into eating hay properly!
I am so tired and feel like ****!
Wayne woke up at 6 this morning and i fell asleep for 20mins on couch but was woken up in tears as had a nightmare of bunnie still not eating, getting thinner and thinner, eating stuff she shouldn't, wayne in dream being calm and not bothered and then she got sore hocks and then died at which point in dream i was crying so much :cry:and then I woke up with wayne shaking me and the dream felt so real i was in tears and heart was hurting! Definetly not going for a kip:( don't want surreal dreams like that):?

E Cuniculi can cause frequent stasis - not just according to me, but according to my vet. If this goes on, I'd get Bunnie tested for it.

yeah the treatment's so simple too - just panacur like for worming but a longer course - can't hurt :)

the test is a blood test isn't it and a couple have to be done at different times?
After she's better and on bunny basics t pellet if it happens again will ask vet to do test!
Will also speak to him about the possibility of ec when she is due her vhd in may!

We have some improvement, just went to get bunnie out of crate to clean it for her and she started eating hay, so I have just been sat there for 10minutes while she polishes off nearly the whole handfull of hay in her wicker basket:D:D:D
Thankgod for that!
So now can clean out crate:D NO, she needs a lie down now in her litter tray as she has a full little belly:roll:
Everything is out of her crate except litter tray and she don't care cos she has a full tum!
God I am so happy and relieved, want to tell Wayne but he is in bed poorly so have to wait till he rises from the pit!
In the meatime I have to wait for bun to come out of her pit till I can clean, still I don't mind she can take as long as she wants cos she our little princess!
