Why is it a good idea to ask for donations?

How do you decide what donation to ask?

You have to try and work out the cost of neutering and any other problems the rabbits may have to get a sensible adoption fee, if yours is to little then there is no point as you will soon run out of funds

for example you need to look at

Food
Bedding
Vet Bills
Sheets etc for winter
water bottles

If you don't have any incoming funds from adoptions, unless you are lucky enough to have rich sponsors or be wealthy yourself, you will soon be in financial trouble.

Ask too much and people will go elsewhere..but if a person looking to adopt shys from a reasonable fee then you realise they will perhaps not be able or willing , to pay any future vet bills for the rabbit.

We ask 40 pounds for a buck and 45 for a doe..the extra is due to speying costs being much higher than castrate at our vets..
this is for a rabbit neutered and vacs against mxyi and vhd..

We ask 15 for a female un neutered gp..and 20 for a neutered boar.

Depending which area you are located in you may find vets that charge less than ours..or some will charge more..the adoption fee can be changed to fit in with your own costs.
..most people understand this is cheaper than getting it done themselves..and we make a loss on at least 90% animals we rehome ( the few that we don't lose on are the ones who have arrived with an incoming donation..or already neutered..rare!) hence the need to read the fundraising section!

It helps to make it clear to people what they are getting for their donation. Once they realise how much it would cost them to neuter and vaccinate a rabbit via their vet the donation you ask sounds much more reasonable.
