What's the most cost effective bedding/litter to use when you've got a lot of rabbits?
How do you dispose of it afterwards?

I love Megazorb :D
It's very cheap, around £5 for 10kg at my local horse supplies/farm shop.
As rabbits are vegetarian, it can go into a compost heap (it's just wood pulp) or can go into the garden waste recycle bin :)

We have taken to using Ecoflax, also known as Thorobed. It is really absorbant but not too bulky. Reducing the amount of waste we generate is a priority here with the number of animals we have. All waste from rabbit hutches is put into green bags to be taken to be composted. Only the bedding from sick bay and the recovery room is disposed of in the general waste. In there we use newspaper with hay on top.
We put the green bags out front and people are welcome to help themselves if they want it for compost. It provides great brown material for mixing with green stuff to make fab compost. An increasing amount of it is being collected, the rest is taken by a volunteer to local allotments.

Do the council provide your green bags?
I think there are private companies that will provide extra/larger bins for a fee (£5-10 per week).

Our council don't collect any green waste so we have to buy the bags:( We try to reuse them though.
The council does give us an extra large rubbish bin in addition to our normal wheelie bin, and empties them both every week instead of the usual once every two weeks. This gets rid of the waste from sick bay and the recovery room and the guinea pigs, plus normal household rubbish.
