Hutches can be improved by lining with lino/vinyl floor tiles. This prevents urine soaking into wood making cleaning and sterilization easier and extending hutch life.
Corner protectors, available at DIY stores, can be use on exposed edges inside hutches to protect them from chewing.

Exterior or yacht varnish is good for painting on hutch floors to prevent urine soaking into the wood.

Another good thing to remember is..
Check the quality of the mesh - if you can pull at it and it distorts it's not good quality.
and .. don't just have swivels on your hutch to secure hutch doors, buy latches or a secure bolt. Cats can easily knock the swivels.
^ Tam, thanks for the advice, I've got some lino I haven't put in the hutches yet :)
