Maybe ask local schools if they could do sponsered walks/swims/not talking days/dress down days for the rescue, the kids could be educated about why they are doing it at the same time :D My brothers school is always doing stuff for different charities here and have done it for the animal shelter :D
Lots of banks and big companies also dress down once a week/month with donations going to charities, you could contact them and ask if your rescue could be put on their list of rescues they donate too. My work usually raises about £300-£400 a month and goes to a different charity each month, which staff have nominated :D

We offer a percentage of the boarding fee back to rescues if we are recommended to the customer by the rescue and also run a loyalty scheme where the customers earn points each time they board - they can then choose if they wish to use the points for themselves or have them converted into cash for a local rescue. So it's always good to contact your local small animal boarder and see if they would be willing to work with you on similar ideas.

Register your rescue for free with Easysearch and ask people to make your registered link their home page - you earn money everytime someone uses it as their search engine.

Rescues can become affiliates of various websites and earn commission for each purchase made from a link via their website. For example Amazon, http://www.vetuk.co.uk/index.php?main_page=page&id=8&chapter=0 and it's also worth looking at Easyfundraising (related to Easysearch above) http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/welcome_to_easyfundraising/?force_login=45296&force_check=b0e80dbbea5278e783c701202cb4439c

Elaine and I have been talking about this today.
Could you look at registering with ebay/missionfish as a charity (you actually have to be a registered charity) that users could give money raised to. It seems simple enough. http://pages.ebay.co.uk/ebayforcharity/charities.html#receive-donations First step is here https://www.missionfish.org.uk/charity/web.uk/register.jsp I would prefer you dealt with this as it involves bank accounts. I would n't want access to it and i'm sure you wouldn't want me to either!
I have also dropped a line on free cycle for donated food hey etc, you could also approach supermarkets about putting a basket instore for donated food etc.
One I haven't suggested to Elaine yet, with Christmas coming up you could get a group of friends together to do bag pack at supermarkets, you need to get on the supermarkets lists early for this. youth groups normally make 200-400 for a couple of hours, or if you are really clever, you could do a present wrap in the local town centre (orgainsed with the town centre management first.)

How about this?

I'm doing it as a result of a drunken bet and I'm doing it for the playscheme I help to run for children with profound and multiple learning difficultys.
I'm sure you could get heaps of sponsorship!
