Okay, so who has been a volunteer? Do you have any suggests from that point of view about how rescues can make things easier for volunteers? What sort of problems have you encountered?

One important thing I think is to decide when you begin volunteering, just how much time you can afford to give and what exactly you are prepared to do.
I started off a novice and ended up going twice a week for over a year with what felt like an assumption from the rescue owner that I would always be there. I always loved it but still started to wonder where my spare time went and if i was actually neglecting my own bunnies and my OH!
I am sure that there are loads of useful things that I could add, but I'll take a few minutes to come up with some stuff.

When I was the rescue's Volunteer Co-Ordinator, I wrote a bit of an induction so that when someone came for the first time, I took them round the site, told them where everything was and so on.
I also wrote a checklist of information so that those who came with little or no knowledge would know what we did and why and learn as they went without my talking endlessly. I found that it was also quite useful for people who came to volunteer as 'experienced' rabbit carers, but who did things contrary to how we recommended to the adoptive parents to do things.
It meant that volunteers could see from our guidelines the value of certain practices and maybe use them at home too, often opening up lines of useful discussion - for example having bunnies at home who weren't spayed or neutered.
This also meant that, especially the youngsters who came, felt that they didn't always have to come and keep asking questions, although that was always a pleasure. Some of the young volunteers who came were some of the best and certainly the most committed.
