For a bun that needs to lose some weight.. how much is a "healthy" amount to lose in a week, say?
Is cutting out all dried feed and just giving a hay and veg diet ok, or is this too drastic?
Thanks people!

I have a feeling at the RWA conference they said 1.5-2% per week (can anyone else confirm my recollection or otherwise!), it needs to be done fairly slowly over a period of many weeks otherwise there is a risk of liver disease. I would cut out any sugary veg such as carrot/apple straight away and from there slowly decrease the pellets to a very small amount. Plus of course increasing exercise can help the bun to burn more calories and lose weight.

Best of luck!!
I have had Robinia on a diet for two months!
Much much fewer pellets lots of hay, no treats, hardly any veg treats no fruit etc etc.
So far Teasal (her companion) has lost weight he didn't need to loose and now hangs around the larder/the dustbin/my feet/the tortoise bowl etc and was recently found trying to gnaw on raw sweet potatoe:oops:
Robinia in the meantime has lost exactly 20gms in 2 months!!!

No, no its none of mine Kay, you know they'd pack their bags and come running to yours if I tried putting them on a diet!!
Its one of the rspca buns, came in very overweight. Shes like a football with a head.. poor thing.
Benny just has barely any pellets - couple of teaspoons, and just a slice of carrot instead of a chunk like the others get - he's just not very energetic compared to the girls. What has made a difference is letting him out more often - he will run about for 5 mins then sit down for an hour, but if I let him out several times a day, he runs about for 5 mins each time - plus I stand by the door with his dish like a fool, and walk REALLY slowly, and he gets so annoyed with me he runs up and down from his hutch to me to the hutch to me - great exercise and he's got fitter :D
