Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Neutering at two years old for behaviour?

Deanna01

New Kit
Hi, all! Thank you so much for your information earlier.

Our bunny, Hip-hop, has gotten much more comfortable with us and seems to be feeling great...enough so that he is nipping us and trying to mate with our legs.

We were told he is two. Will neutering help these behaviours at that age? Do any of you have suggestions that might help otherwise?

Best,
Deanna

Hiya - yes it should do - rescues routinely neuter rabbits at this age and it has much the same effect in calming this as on younger ones, although it might take a bit longer to calm down. Two isn't old really and it's a pretty straightforward operation so I would definitely suggest it!

Well, I took him in this morning, and he is back and nibbling at hay already, so I'm happy. Hopefully this will stop his calm his constant lust a bit. ;-)

Excellent news, glad it went ok! It will probably take several weeks for him to calm down totally so don't expect an overnight change - especially as he is a little older and more used to those hormones and habits! You should notice quite a big difference in a couple of months time. xx
