Hi
I need to get our two rabbits insured, can anyone recomend good companies.
I want to look at about 3 to compare them and look at who's the best.
So far i've heard Petplan and Petprotect are preety good but just want a few others that people recomend. Just want to make sure the rabbits are covered so we have peace of mind
Many thanks
Mark
I couldn't find any others, so I went with Pet Plan in the end. Good luck with the search.

I'm with Petplan, Lucifer was insured first at around £9/month with first two free; then along came Nyx - he got a 2nd pet discount & 2 months free - about £8/month for him; then Azrael; similar price to Nyx.
Thankfully I've never needed it, and hope I don't; it's just for security.

Pet Plan are really good...I've never known them refuse to pay out for anything, even dental work :thumb:

All mine are insured with petplan, and they refused to pay out for dental work on them...

Oh no :(
I think there's some sort of clause in the contract stating that their teeth have to be examined every so many months, so my vet does that when they go for vaccinations, and mine seem to be covered that way.

I've no quarrels with Pet Plan, they've been pretty spot on so far.

Sounds about right; all my three have £50 excess each - I guess it's to make sure we don't claim for silly little things.

I think the excess is quite reasonable with Pet Plan, especially as some rabbit treatments do cost an arm and a leg.. you'd be expected to be able to afford the excess someway before you got a rabbit i'd suspect.

I had a good search when I first got Barney but could only find petplan that insures rabbits.

Hmmm..... I have my bunnies teeth checked every six months by the vet and they had been insured for a year without any problems before the problems with their teeth. When I put a claim in they replied saying that they wouldn't cover the cost of dental work yet were willing to 'honor' the first claim of £35 (I had four in for the same bunny and they knew they wouldn't have to pay anything because of the excess) but would not pay for any further treatment or any issues relating to teeth. To me it seems like they weren't 'honoring' my claim at all, they just wanted to put it on file that he has dental issues so if any abscesses etc were to develop they would be covered and not have to pay out.....very clever I thought. Anyway, I'm going to put in a complaint because I know they have paid out for others according to my vet and if they don't want to pay out I don't want it on my file. So frustrating because I have six bunnies and my dog insured with them and have never put a claim in before.

That is terrible!! Thats mainly the reason I have mine insured, because if they had teeth probs that needed dentals every month or so, I'd not be able to afford it! Hmmm...:?

why dont you do what we do...we put money every month into an isa.
upto you how much you put in ,can top it up if you have a good month and no worries about whether you will get the companies to pay out.
we have a nearly 7 yo lop who has cost us nothing so far apart from the myxi , vhd and spay.we would have paid out £840 on nothing if we had insurance!plus our last bun, jess wasnt insured and good job because she had abscesses and they wouldnt have paid for that either (another £360 down the drain!)

Im with Pinnacle for 2 of my three. I found the excess more favourable than Petplan. It may go on postcode but Pinnacle was £40 and petplan £60

PetPlan is a popular choice but I'm with ExoticDirect which costs me £13.45 per month for my two bunnies with a £45 excess. Haven't had to claim as yet, (thankfully).

I am also with Exotics direct, which worked out at 160 for the year for two bunnies

A word of warning about some pet insurance companies...
Some pet insurance companies only allow on-line claims, however neither of my vets will fill in on-line forms. I'm sure lots of other vets aren't able to do this either.
I don't know if any of these companies insure rabbits, but it's certainly a problem I've seen recently with dogs (yes..I do spend too much time at my vets  )

Same here. Haven't had cause to claim from them yet though.
