  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

This may well have come up beore so if it has ..... my appologies, but

During the month of march there is a vaccination offer on @ participating vets whereby if you have a rabbit over 9mths old or a rabbit that has not been vaccinated for 9mths you can get a vaccination free up to £30 if you have your rabbit vaccinated, sort of buy one get one free. I think what I have said is correct but details are on......

www.vaccinationmonth.co.uk

So check it out.

Lillie's having her VHD jab tomorrow but .........

Viral Haemorrhagic Disease
This is a viral disease of rabbits which usually proves rapidly fatal. Signs of the disease can be just sudden unexplained death or may include depression, collapse, difficulty in breathing, convulsions and bleeding from the nose. Rabbits can be vaccinated against this disease, although this vaccine is not included in the National Vaccination Month initiative. Please ask you veterinary surgeon for more details.

And she has had 6 monthly Myxo jabs . Full price for me then

Mike

Arthur had his Mixi today and VHD on the 19th - even though the jabs aren't 100% protection, its such peace of mind knowing you've done your best. I already found a mossie today in the kitchen!
