  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New Kit
recently I got a 4 m/o old lop rabbit. He's gotten used to me very fast, he's very friendly and seems to be okay but I'm VERY worried. He is not at all playful...he doesn't run around or anything. 95% of the time he just sits in one spot. I'm really scared for him...i can't imagine this being normal for a rabbit and i know he's not uncomfortable because he loves sitting next to me , he'll even lick me sometimes to show affection. Also, today he dispursed a sticky white goo on my shirt when sitting on my lap? What is that? Is it normal? My main concern is though that he just sits still, he doesn't move around at all almost. im really afraid

that would be bunny sperm.

Some vet hospital offer free exam if you pick up a bunny from RSPCA, you have to call RSPCA for a list of those hospital. A thorough checking of the bunny, its teeth especially would be a good idea

its over

he didn't move around at all, at rthe pet store nor here...and he ate very little.(i think)..though he was 4m/o old. i believe a rabbit at 4m/o is supposed to be energetic? at 5:30 am this morning i woke up to hear him twitch violently about 3 times with about 2-5 seconds in between each one...then he just sayed there taking deep breathes every 2-3seconds...after about 20 breathes....he just stopped ..this is the worst day of my life. i dont know what to think.

 this is awful im very sorry, least he was with a loving mum and he knew you loved him as he licjed you:cry:

sigh..

i had time to think about it...and atleast the little one had his final days with a loving owner...not at a pet store....a owner who let him sleep in his bed and kissed him good night every evening. i know this probably sounds pathetic to you but after he died i took xanax and later in the day draank because i couldnt handle the depression it caused me and how much it hurt me to watch him pass, even though he did not suffer and died comfortable with me close by. even hurts to type these words....oh well....back to drinking...bye guys..thanks for support

This is a very sad story, and on reading it, it sounds very much like your bunny was born with some defect which shortened his life.
As you say, his short time here was made much happier being spent with you, and you can take comfort in that.
Do not feel responsible for his going, I am sure it was not due to anything you did.
Perhaps when you have grieved and recovered a little, you might consider giving an equally happy home to one of the buns on this site.
Try not to take too much solace from drinking... it never helps for long.
So sorry for your loss.
xx
