The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Dry skin after spay

Maxy123

Young Bun
Hi, my bunny has got really dry skin on his belly after the spay. Its pretty much flaking. The vet said to go back in a week if it hasn't cleared up, is there anything i can do in the meantime?

I am trying to think of something non-toxic that you can use - I was wondering on Vasaline but I wouldn't go putting that on your bun before getting a second opinion...:?

I would be careful of putting anything on your bun while the wound is healing - you don't want to irritate the area. Is the acctual wound healed yet?

My best suggestion (if healed) is a little Vasaline...or a tiny bit of vegetable oil/similar maybe???

TP

Please could somebody clarify whether Vasaline (only a well rubbed in smudge) or Vegetable oil okay for rabbits?? I don't want OP to take my suggestion in the event of no others and then her/his rabbit is sick from licking it!

Thanks,
TP;)

a small amount is unlikly to make bunny sick. you will only need a tiny amount ...just enough to lubricate the skin. i've used sunflower oil on mine befor with no problems.

A small amount of Sudacrem is better as is antiseptic..put a small blob on and rub into dry areas..hold your bun for a few minutes to let it soak in..then place bun down near tasty veg to eat..so she doesn't straight away lick at the cream
