Fur not growing back after spay

spider

Warren Scout
Lily was spayed last November and the fur where she she shaven to be spayed had never properly grown back. It has grown back along the incision. About a 1cm wide strip! Then there are bits around the edge of the shaven area that have grown back a bit and others that have only recently started to grow back and then most of the area just has a very fine very sort covering of hair. You can see her skin is nice and healthy and pink with not dryness or redness.

The vet said it was odd but that spaying can affect a hormone that is involved in hair growth. They concluded the same as me that the skin was healthy and she can't be barbering it herself as she hasn't the teeth to do it (see other thread about broken incisors). Its too short for her to be doing it herself anyway. The hair is really almost non existant.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Thank you,
Clare and Lily xx

Honey's hair took ages to grow back. She did have a strip of hair down the middle as you describe for a while. It did eventually grow back though.

Aw thanks for the reply. Its good to know that it's not just Lily. How long did it take for Honey's hair to grow back, do you remember roughly?

Lucifer had the same problem.

The fur will (apparently) grow back in fully when they start shedding & growing for their spring/summer coats.

Ah that makes sense. It just seemed so odd and it has been quite a while since her spay in mid November. Hopefully the fur will grow back soon then :D

Thanks :D

I've got a similar problem with Millie, she was spayed in october and the fur on her belly grew back quite quickly, but where her ear was shaved for the ga its still bald, and as she's a black bunny it's really quite noticable. The vet seems to think it wont grow back as it's been so long :?
