Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Can you tell a rabbits age by his teeth

I took Tilly to our vet yesterday , after registering her with them, for her myxi jab, I have recently rehomed her and I know that her age is unknown as she came from the rspca who found her as a stray. When I asked him if he had any idea of her age, he told me it's impossible to tell, and didn't even look at her teeth, I thought their teeth gave some indication, So am I wrong?
Apart from that he told me she was in great condition and very healthy.

Sorry really dont know how you tell, not sure you could from the teeth? Sice they grow all the time and are alwasy present? Maybe you coudl tell if very old or very young but not not precisely from that?

__________found this on the internet________________
It's not so east to tell the age of a rabbit. You can tell a rabbit's age (roughly) by looking at the teeth. If the rabbit is very young, the teeth may be semi-transparent. A young adult would have white teeth and on an older adult, the teeth would be horn-coloured.
But even experts can't really predict a rabbit's age very accurately.

You can guess a rabbits age if they are under the age of 1ish but after that it's very difficult to tell and the teeth don't really give much away. I had a bun who was only a youngster but because of the diet he was on before he went into rescue his teeth were awful and the vet couldn't believe how young he was having seen them.
