After care for Mummy rabbit

Teepee

Mama Doe
Hello:wave:

Some of you may recall from my other thread that I am due to home 2 rabbits in a few weeks. I went to see said buns last night (they are beautiful - though my BEW is more a BEW with grey nose!) and all babies and Mum seem very "spritely" and in good health (Dad is currently being fostered until babies "leave home" so I didn't see him).

ANYWAY, I noticed that the hutch was more than a tad "wiffy" and the lady apologised for this stating that she was afraid to clean it and remove the nest until the babies left Mum. The babies are currently 6 weeks old - does she need wait until they are re-homed to remove the nest and give the hutch a good clean or can she do it sooner please?:?

ALSO, she stated that the Mum is a very good one and is worried how she will react when all her kits have gone (though Dad will return to live with her once neutering/spaying done)...can she do anything to help Mum out on that score? I don't like the thought of her all lonely...some form of soft toy??:(

Thanks for any help,
TP;)

A soft toy is a good idea for mum yes.

Once tha babies leave the nest at about 3-4 weeks the hutch can have a full clean out. They should be nearly weaned by 6 weeks so there is no reason not to clean it out at all now, they are too old to be using the nest. :)

Thank you so much Sooz22 - I will pass this information on to her asap.:)

No, they didn't appear to be using the nest (that's what made me wonder if it would be okay to clean) - more leaping all about the hutch in glee!
I had declined her first offer of "having a peep" as I didn't want to disturb them, but when she stated that they were "following Mum around" I figured that they were clearly bigger than I first thought...

I think I may buy Mum a soft toy when I go fetch my 2 as a "thank you" gift then bless her.

TP;)
