Shame the person who did the website and petition didn't do their research- it's been illegal to release myxi over here for years  Unfortunately it is much too widespread to be stopped now- I doubt the government would vaccinate wild bunns.

And just imgaine the stress to wild buns being caught to be vaccinated. Much as I admire the sentiment behind this kind of thing there has to be a practical ability to do something too.
On a positive note have started to notice wild buns aroudn again after last years severe outbreak..so some have immunity!

I imagine it would be impossible to eradicate myxi. But truth be told, yes it's a horrible disease but at least it controls the wild rabbit population especially as most forms of hunting seem to have been outlawed.
People need to be educated and made more aware of vaccinations so pet rabbits don't get it, or at least if they do it will be treatable. There is no other way of controlling it really, especially not in the wild.
Nice sentiment, but very naive, so I won't be signing it.

Unfortunately I have to agree with Izzytwig - as much as I'd love to see the disease wiped out I really can't see an answer to the problem being as it is so widespread and easily carried. I just hope that the evil :censored: who created this disease in the first place got his just rewards for it!

Prompted by the last post, I hust had a read of the myxi article on Wikipedia and was shocked to learn that in Australia the vaccine is illegal! How perfectly horrible!
I didn't know that myxi had been deliberately introduced into other rabbit populations as pest control, you learn something new (and sometimes nasty) every day...
