Hi , haven't been on here in a while and hoping someone can offer me some advice. Me and my boyfriend ahve recently aquired what was his dads rabbit. He is a lion head cross (at a guess) has a lovely laid back nature, is either 3 or 4 and is un neautered.
Last night we found a black rabbit in the middle of the road, and managed to catch him. After knocking on doors up and down the street we have found the owner who no longer wants him, they had 'let him go':censored:. Thankfully we have a spare cage, it a bit on the small side but he's been let out daily and him been in a small cage is better than him beed run over by a car in my eyes. He is about 6 months old (i think) again very freindly quite happy to sit on my knee and watch the world go by. Obvioulsy my first port of call is to get them both neutered, which is something i will be doing in the next few weeks, then i wil be buying them both new hutches. But ultimately my question is what are the chances of being able to bond these too. Scruff (the older rabbit) is very laid back takes everything in his stride, had a sniff of Sooty (as we've christened the babay rabbit) through the hutch bars, sort of looked at me in disgust and hopped off. I appriciate at the moment if i put them together they would fight, however once neutered and hormones have settled could it work?

Yes!! Bonding rabbits, I believe, depends more on the nature of the rabbits than the sex. I have two boys who are best mates and happily lived together, they are now part of my bonded group and, despite there being girls in that group, they are still best buddies and hang out together all the time.

It can but procede with caution and I would leave 8 weeks after the neuter before bonding.

I, like Chloe, have a male pair who are best friends but on of that pair has also had another male nearly kill him in the past and the other was injured by his brother :(

Right sorry 2 more questions, i appricate any operation on a rabbit has its risks, however at waht stage is a rabbit too old to be neutered. Only reason i ask is scruff, at the top end is probably about 4 round about now. Is this going to be too old. The rabbit we rescued last night isn't very old at all probably 6 months or so, so i can't see there being a big issue there. Sorry for all the questions, just never really though scruff would be anthing other than a single bun. :D

4 really isn't that old for a bunny :D

I have had a couple of 5/6 year olds speyed without problems and a castration is much less invasive.

Firstly, well done you for taking the poor little blighter in! It makes me so cross that someone has been irresponsible enough just to let him go. Shame they cant be prosecuted, anyway, I divulge....

Yes bonding two males is possible and I agree with Sooz22, leave it afew months before you introduce them after the neutering. Do it very slowly and gradually and make sure you do it in Neutral territory, a bedroom or the bathroom perhaps, one step at a time. Hopefully after afew weeks they will be in love! (even though they are both males, the two brothers I have are testament to how devoted a bonded pair are!)

Good luck with the bonding/neutering!!:D

I am still pondering the thinking previous owners had behind "letting it go"!!

All the very best with your new family member.

I have the bonding room already planned  my boyfriend currently lives with his dad who is wanting to move out so we are hopefully going to buy it off him and do it up, there is a little box room that i have already named the bonding room  it was going to be the rabbit room but i think scruff would miss living outside, he likes coming in the house for a hop about but always goes to the back door and asks to go back out when he's a bit bored.
Will let little new bun settle in for the next week or so and then book them both in for neutering.

HIya! iv just tried bonding 2 unneutred males and plan to have them neutred asap and i was reall worried too as there is so much conflicting advice, but a week on they are fine...although still a lot of humping from the older one no fighting at all, just some nipping, they are always in each others cages, they prefer each others than their own! I havent let them alone as its early days but one is dominant and the other very submissive so hopefull it will be a sucess, you can only try, it must be down the the litlle buns temprement? good luck anyway! try swapin toys between them so they can smell each other and put the cages side by side not touchin, and iv heard puttin some poops from the other bunnies litter tray also works so they get familir with the scent!
