I have a nethie who at the moment lives inside in a dog crate, he is nearly 3 yrs old and unfortunatly lives alone (I have 5 other buns who live outside) he was becoming aggressive and territorial so I had him neutered last october, he took a while to recover from the op and I hoped he would be better tempered (he used to have a brilliant temperament) anyway he seemed to improve initially but these past 6-8 weeks he has started to become territorial again, mainly it is against me, my OH can feed him ok though he growls sometimes, but he always lunges at me unless i approach slowly and stroke him first.
I wondered if part of the problem was that he was lonely as when I first got him at 8weeks old it was my intention to bond him with one of my girls, emily. She unfortunatly has grown into a bun that doesnt seem to like other buns!!!!! (just keeping my fingers crossed now that she will like Benji as she has changed her temperamnet since moving outside) but last year we thought we would bond him with Twinkle, my little lionhead who lost her mate in 2006, she is a placid gentle bunny so thought they would be well matched, ive let them play together divided by a wire fence piece, and they seemed to get on, anyway last week i decided to go for a proper bonding session...............OMG i wish i hadnt, they happily hopped around together for 30 mins, Twinkle washed Timmys face, they sniffed each other happily, then 30 mins in Timmy tried to mount Twinkle and all hell let loose......................there was then a full on fight with growling and scurrying (no boxing) Twinkle pinned Timmy down and I was quick to hand with a broom, no one was hurt thankfully though Timmy did loose some clumps of fur, after that I watched them carefully and finally separated them when they nearly came to blows again 10 mins later. After placing wire back beweeen them Twinkle continued to try to nip Timmys nose through the bars.
This behaviour is most unlike Twinkle as she was never like this with her previous husbun and they often had bouts of mounting each other but on watching them it was almost like a game to them. Why She would go for Timmy like this when before they had always seems to get along famously.
Unfortunatly this ordeal has left Timmy more grumpy than ever
Anyone have any advice for poor lonely Tim
Has anyone had experience like this? Any advice for making Timmy less grumpy and any hope that he and twinkle might become friends again??
