Having a difficult time litter training our bun, Freddy. He just wees and poops everywher. I've tried the 'No' and putting him in the tray, mop up his wee and put the tissue in his trays - nothing. Getting a bit desperate now - all suggestins gratefully received.

Short of just sitting in his room for hours and dealing with the waste 'as it happen's' , I'm at a loss.

Got to find a solution soon as hubby beginning to lose patience. I'm sure I'm missing some obvious way of dealing with this.

Have u tried putting his poops in the tray so it's got his smell in it or putting the tray where he poops the most??

Is he neutered? How old is he?

Does he wee everywhere or in particular places in the room?

It was like this with my bun until I read up about litter training. The suggestion is that you make the litter tray fun. Put some hay in to nibble on and a few pellets, veg etc. Rabbits poo whilst eating so I always kept some hay in there till Arthur started going there automatically.

Rabbits are the first creatures I have come across that eat where they poo

I am no expert but read somewhere that rabbits mark their territory through pooping and as such tend to poop in certain places more than others? Maybe you could try putting the tray where the most poop is as suggested or even introducing another tray if there is no "single place of most poop"??

I know that when you litter train cats you are meant to put some of the soiled litter back in the tray to encourage them so I think you're certainly doing right on that score...I *think* there's a thread in FAQ on litter training too - I could be wrong, but sure I saw one there when I was browsing about the forum...

As a thought maybe you could try changing the litter - some animals are very funny about the substance into which they "do their business", maybe he doesn't like the smell/feel of it?

Oh! Wicked Freddy!! I do hope you have him "toilet trained" soon.;)

I am franticallt trying to litter train Dexter at the moment too - in the hope that by the time he is ready to live outside he wont get booted out by my hubby!!!!

I have him living in a puppy pen with 2 litter trays both layered with newspaper and lots of hay - within a few days he would only wee in the litter trays but is still pooping all around the pen.

I have found though that when he has he nightly run around upstairs, when he is out for about an hour he is no longer pooping on the carpet :D......... except for in one place - infront of the mirror!!!!! He is obviously marking his territory a he can see 'another bun' in the mirror!:roll:

Am going to try popping a litter tray there tonight.

I can empathise completely cos we've been having battles with getting Sienna litter trained :? How big is ths space that he's in? We've used the approach of sectioning off a small area and then slowly making it bigger as reliability increases. This seems to be working, but it's early days yet  I presume he's neutered?

Thanks for all the replies.

First of all, and I know this can be a factor - Freddy isn't neutered. Can't be done at the moment as he's very snuffly.

We've no idea how old he is.

We've tried putting the poop in the tray - he doesn't have any particular place to poop or wee - he just does it everywhere.

His food and hay are always in the one tray he has 3 in the room altogether.

I think I might have to bite the bullet and just reduce his area for a while. I'll just keep him in his room for now while spending some time with him and only slowly let him out and around the house as he improves..hopefully. It's quite a big room, I just hate to see the sulking when he's left in there alone! He so LOVES to be with us!

WE must of been lucky with Bunnie cos she was easy to litter train.

We put litter tray in the corner she was weeing and that was it! Done:)

Make sure you put their hay right next to the litter tray so they can eat it whilst in there!

With regards to pooing, yes she did drop poos around and went through a phase of pooing loads on the couch and weeing on there a few times! This was we believe marking her territory. After she was neutered she done it a couple of times for up to a couple of months and then stopped!

Now the only poos we get on the floor are ones that are slighty stuck to her butt that drop off when she jumps out of her crate!

If they pee in one corner put the tray there and the hay! If they move elsewhere then move the tray and hay with them! And put some of the wet shavings/paper or whatever you use in the tray and when you clean it everynight! put some wee and poo back in!

iinitially had litter training trouble with my two rexes and i discovered that they had too many litter trays and once i reduced them to one large tray they have been almost perfect.....the odd raisin outside the tray is all.
