God..... i just phoned round the vets in my area - neurering for Dexter and Marley is going to cost me £66 per rabbit!!!!! Am horrified!!! Didnt cost much more than that to have my dog spayed!!!

Anyone live anywhere where it is much cheaper?! Fancy letting me know what it costs you? Will be worth a drive to somewhere cheaper at that price! Thank god they are both having to wait till they are better first - gonna have to start really saving!:roll:

I don't think thats bad, Bugys cost me £100.00 for the spay then she had to go back in for a few days ended up costing me about £200.00.

I personally would use the vet your most confident with, not the cheapest.
I know was quite a lot but I knew she was in good hands.

Here its about £65 or each. I would definitely be asking the vets what their rate is for unexpected deaths and taking the one that has least , rather than worrying about getting the cheapest

Faes spay came to 70 pounds and would have been more but i didnt take her back for her followup as she was absolutely fine and i figured it was just more stress for her. The op went everso well and she was absolutely spoilt by the staff. Its a nice place we GENERALLY trust so it was worth it

Just make sure you double check youre absolutely confident with the vet themself. We happened to get a different vet doing Joeys op and we werent half as happy and neither was he, poor little guy

I am in Bournemouth and Spaying cost me £52 last month.I dont think it is too bad as when my dog had a swab taken from his ear it cost me £50.The allergy treatment my dog has costs the insurance company £110 a month so the op was good value!

Our vet is lovely, rabbit savvy and well priced. We're lucky!

Male bunnies cost me about £60 to £70 and females bunnies about £80 to £100. So what you are paying is not to bad.

Really??!!!! See i have read loads of threads on here about neutering etc and most of them gave the me impression i was looking at 35-50 per rabbit! :roll: Maybe i was being thick??!!!:oops::roll:

Cant even begin to think about it yet, i just wanted to call around in plenty of time and ask all my questions so i have time to get the funds together and decide where i want to take them!

Am sure it cost me 55 last year to have the cat done at the same vet!!! Oh well.......... no takeaway for a while!

Cats and rabbits are a very different procedure, bunnies being more delicate and needing more after care :)

It's £15.00 cheaper to get female cats spayed at my vet. When I asked why the big difference they said it's because they use a more expensive anaesthetic with rabbits as they're so much more delicate, and with cats they do a small incision on their side, whereas with rabbits they have to make quite a large one down their tummy.

No, thats the full price, they are very cheap.
If you try the Notts RSPCA (city centre one, highfield I think :? ), they will hopefully send you a £15 voucher, or however many you need for each indivdual animal so you'll get that off the total.

I dont think thats too bad, Trips neuter was about £50 :D I was charged £170 for Scarletts spay :shock: Its important to find a rabbit savvy vet like the others have said :D Also my cats spay was cheaper than my rabbits spays although she was spayed 7 years ago, I think it cost about £50 at the same vets my rabbits were done at x

I was £60 for Gloria to be spayed and have her myxi jab at the same time. Wolfie's castration and myxi was £45 or so.

We pay £40 for a castrate and thats with a discount. Rabbits are still classed as exotics which is why many vets can still charge more for them than treating a cat or dog with the same condition. That and they require more specialised treatment due to their anatomy.

A cat spey costs £45 at my vets whilst a rabbit spey is £70...

At my vets it's around £54 for a castration and I think nearly £70 for a spey.

Having done work experience in a vets I can see the difference in price compared to dogs or cats because buns are smaller creatures and getting the anasthesia right is more tricky plus the vet is having to operate on much smaller parts so it can take longer and requires much more concentration.

My flatmate only paid about $80NZ (£32)for her cat to be speyed but that is because there are subsidies. Apparently unwanted dogs and cats get special treatment.

That would have been the GA. Thats what really bumps the costs up in most operations, especially dentals.

Sorry I just realised I didn't make sense in my post about the cost :oops: :lol: £32 is the standard price (or was when I got Rowan neutered there, so it may have gone up a few £'s now), so you can get £15 off whatever the cost is now.

Yeah, our branch also does free microchipping for dogs and cats, none of it is income assesed either. They dont do anything for bunnies here though but its nice that some do.

Well.... just phoned my local RSPCA and they dont do the vouchers :(
But..... they gave the the number of their welfare officer person and told me to ring her. So i did! She is going to give me £20 of the neutering for Marley and then Dexter when he is strong enough - whenever that will be!!!!!
Am so relieved!:D

Oh my god - she just called me back!!! She has put me in touch with the vet she uses for her own pets - she just called them and they told her it would be 45! £25 each rabbit with the vouchers - wow!!!!!! :shock::D:D

working as a vet nurse the only thing i paid is the actual cost price of the GA and the Meds, i paid:

Jimmys castrate £9.00
Cat Castrate £5.00
female dog Spay £23.00

The large cost of any ops is the Vet time and the GA, but with the mark ups...:roll: Its the time that is a factor, in dentals especially its the difficulty level once they inside the mouth, extractions cost muchly :roll:, if a tooth is loose and comes out easily its much much less....etc, you get the picture.

Basically the longer your pet is in surgery, the longer you are paying for a monitoring vet nurse,plus a vet to perform the surgery and the meds/GA. Then you are going to get a mark up on the vets time, because the longer he is tied up in surgery the less he can do elsewhere before consultations begin!

The last Vet i worked with was a small practice, with 2 vets and 3 nurses, there was a huge mark up on vet time and meds.....sometimes as much a 200% :shock:.....the practice would often close up with in excess of £2000.00 in the till. ( i dont work there any more so i know im safe in sharing this info with you all)
On the flip side, he did a huge amount of voucher schemes for local rescues inc rabbit/ greyhound and the local dog homes.....often a whole day would be swallowed up with voucher work, so he had to make profit elswhere....someone has to pay for the voucher schemes nothing is for nothing im afraid!!

This could lead lead us on......but ill stop now...;)
