  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi my rescue bun sid i notice seems to have a weepy eye no sores or scratches reddness anything just looks weepy. What would be best to clean it with and should i worry too much. Not that i dont but i mean as take him to vet.

I'm no expert but I think (hopefully someone can put me straight) that sometimes teeth troubles can cause a weepy eye.

I would bathe it with some cooled, boiled water or Optrex eyewash is helpful. I would definitely get him to a vet tomorrow though, better to be safe then sorry with eye stuff.

Hehyah. Is that sid the bigish grey nethie who I fostered for a bit? If so I hope he's ok and settling in well. I agree that vets is the best option. It could be something is simple as a touch of hayfever or as someone said a blocked tear duct.

Just wondering what the treatment is for a blocked tear duct?

Tofu also has a weepy eye and has eye drops for it, but it doesn't seem to be doing much. How do you unblock it or is it permanent?

I've never had a bun with a blocked tear duct but my understanding is that they can flush them but I don't think they like to do it too often & it rather depends on the underlying cause....
