Update on Lottie - Update 26th Feb

Hi

I took Lottie for her check up tonight! It's quite good news :D
Her right ears is perfect, so stiches will be out soon. Her left ear is not too bad but there is a little bit a scabbing this could be from healing or from the tissue underneath rotting. It is only a very very small patch and the rest of the ear is fine. the swelling has reduced. I have been told to reduce Metacam by drop a day. I go back next friday and we decide what will happen. There are three options:
1, It is scabbing and will be healing by Friday even with less Metacam
2, It is tissue disintergrating (SP) and the ear needs amputating
3, It is tissue disintergrating and he refers me to a specialist where as it is only a small spot he can do skin grafts.

I've never heard of the last one done on a bun. Can you all let me know what you think Opinions on skin grafts would be great.

Thanks guys!! :D

P.S promise i'll take some pics of her this weekend!!

I think I must have missed what happened to Lottie's ear.

My first instinct would be to amputate the ear if needed.

One of mine had her ear torn half off, but she was stitched up the same day and the ear gradually healed over about 6 months until you could barely notice the scar. I did looke terrible at first though, especially when the bruising came up.

I'm not sure what happened either. My neighbour found her in their garden. The skin on her ear was very badly torn, after 1 1/2 hours of surgery it was reconstructed.

That's how I feel, would it be kinder to amputate rather than a skin graft? It must be quite a big op but then amputation must be too.
I really hope that by next Friday its started healing.

I am still reiking Little Lottie every night before bed. At the minute I have thirteen bunnie chinese symbols above my bed.

I am so pleased she is on the mend Ab x x

thanks Amy! It really means a lot to me and lottie.
I'm so happy that she's getting better too! Her owners have never come forward though, poor little girl :(

I think I would go for the option that caused Lottie the lease stress, as you know all animals hate being messed about with by a vet, having to take medication etc.

Good luck. Fingers and paws crossed.

Thanks guys! :D

I really hope that it just heals all by itself. My vet has gone from saying it would be best to PTS to she should have skin grafts. So at least it's more positive.
I think amputation would be best as I worry going somewhere and having a skin graft from her neck to her ear (which might not work) would be too much for her. :?

Thanks everyone for all you vibes!!

Thanks SOAD. I think if it comes to it which I pray it doesn't I will ask for it to be amputated.

I have now posted some pic's of her in Photos section!!

Thanks for asking Gem :D

Lottie continues to improve. Her right ear has completely mended and the stitches are out. The left is now scabbing over, at first we thought this was dead and may have to be amputated but after going to the vets Friday he seems very positive and said this will eventually fall off and have new skin underneath!! She spending alot of her time itching it!

Thank you to evryone who's sent her healing vibes! She is one very lucky bunny and I have my fingers crossed that she continues to improve!!

Thanks
