  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bella Not Very Well

Bella is a bun I took in about 3yrs ago from a well known pet shop as they suspected she had snuffles. Well for the past couple of days she hasn't been herself but hasn't given me anty real cause for concern as her partner been a bit under the weather has he as had a bout of snuffles and I thought she was just fed up because he didn't want to do anything and she was just sitting with him all the time. Anyway last night I was giving matty (Bella's partner) his medicine when I could smell the most awful smell so I took Bella out and she was covered in a biege coloured discharge that was really wet and also is quite swollen around and in the vulva. I cleaned her up as best we could but she was flinching as we did it. I have given her some baytril and metacam until I can see my vet this afternoon. As anyone any ideas, I really have a horrible feeling that I am going to have to let her go.

Ditto Sooz

If she has been spayed, it could be bladder trouble from excess calcium. My bun with this problem also smelled quite bad sometimes and had a creamy discharge.

Hope Bella feels better soon xx

Unfortunately she hasn't as because of the snuffles which is quite bad on her chest when she has a bad do so we didn't want to risk putting her under. So this is why I think I won't be bringing her home this afternoon as I really think I know what it is.
