  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Our first port of call is to contact the vet that peformed the spey. Otherwise I think its an ultrasound you need.

You could always try feeling for a spay scar... If you don't feel that, then you can try U/S. I am not sure the cost over there... I have seen it vary in the US, depending on which city or state I was working in. Some places as low as $20 and others as high as $100+!! Sorry i cannot be of more help.

have contacted vets on this ....waiting to hear back .

apparently it takes a vet with good ultresound experience to be able to tell.

If her spay was done recently (i.e. within the last year or so) a vet should be able to feel the dissolvable stitches under the skin. Apparently they take ages to dissolve

we had same prob when took on dora and snowy (who if any one has seen are up on rin). (were told by owners snowy was neutered but not dora) i personally was unsure due to behaviour.. so i asked the vet(telling her only that one had been apparently done but didnt say which one i had been told as wanted her opinion) she said there is a scar on snowy so she says snowy is speyed. she is a good vet and i value her opinion it would have been around a year since spey so not surprised that scar is able to be felt. dora has no such scar so i am inclined to beleive the prev owners and i think this is less stress than going ahead with the ulttrasound which costs as much as a spey.
