RCVS accredited ???? what does this mean?

There is a vets in my area that is:

RCVS accredited Small Animal General Practice

What does this mean...are they more rabbit savvy?

Theoretically, yes it does. In practice, it very much depends I think on which vet you see.

I go to an accredited practice and they are pretty good with rabbits.

what about the 'Small Animal General Practice' part - are they specialists? or have more training with small animals?

I assume all vets should be accredited generally with Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons ????

Oh yes :lol::D

It generally means they are more experienced with the small animals, although one of my vets is a Small animal vets they class Cats and Dogs under this too but they are pretty good.....although my fave vet left a while ago

I've been to a lot of RCVS accredited surgeries that didn't have a *clue* about small furries! :? The one I'm at now is the only good one I have found in a 5 mile radius :?

my vets are accreditied, they have 1 exotics specialist who does the ops and sees most small animal patients, but from the one scare i had i saw two different vets and both were very good with him..

so far alvin has seen 4 different vets at my practice, the main exotics and 3 others and id trust all of them with his life 100%.

even stella and bud have been and they was great with them too, the receptionist had never seen a chipmunk before tho lolololol

is it better to go with vets with this small animal accreditation...what questions should be asked when deciding which to go with.

I must admit I ignorantly went to the nearest in distance vet for Liquorice...not because im lazy but because i didnt want him distressed in the car any longer than he needed to be.

there are differentr levels of accreditation....

so check what level the vets is accredited too.

my vets is a small animal hospital, and is accredited to the highest (three i think) level.

they've treated my buns, my rodents, and my birds, and i've always found them very good...however the emergency vets that use their premises scare me - have never actually used them, but they wanted to gas my cockatiel to remove a blood feather (call me a coward but teh thought of havinga bird gased scares me!!!!!) my vet had doen one pereviously without gasing, and we have done two this way also (this being the second one - as when i asked had the vet doen it before she said "well on otehr animals" and when i asked about the risks he said "everything has risks"...so i decided i'd rather be brave and remove it myself again!!!!!)

On a similar note does anyone know what the various letters after the names mean? Taking a few from our the vets on the website of the one I go to:

BMVeS
BVSc
MRCVS
BMVS
BVetmed

Are there special letters to look out for with regard to small animals?

Hannah

Small animals accredited just means they deal with small animals whic is everythign except livestock so it doesn't mean they have any extra skills in dealing with rabbits or guinea pigs etc.:D

BMVeS = Not sure, guess its similar or the same to BMVS
BVSc = Bachelor of Veterinary Science = normal vet!
MRCVS = Member of RCVS = normal vet!
BMVS = Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery = normal vet!
BVetmed = Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine = normal vet!

Its just the title that each uni gives its course really, except for the MRCVS which means they have membership with RCVS.

I had a feeling like in most cases the letters after the name didn't mean an awerful lot (apart from being a vet of course which is a darn site more that I'd manage!!)

Perhaps I'll get some letters to stick after my name??

My freind sent me a card the other day with letters after my name on the envelope, they were so hilarious but I shouldn't post them on a forum like here.
I imagine the postmen had a good laugh!
