Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

My Girls have worms!!!

Hi
I noticed that there was a small white worm in Milly's poo. There were multiple worms on multiple poos. It was shaped like a C and was only about 2mm long. I'm going to the vet on Wednesday to buy some Panacur. Should I take a stool sample to the vet? Will I have to do a 60-day course? I'd prefer if we didn't have to take the rabbits themselves as they get very nervous at the vets and I don't want to put them under unecessary stress. They are acting normal, very lively, happy, eating well, drinking well. I don't know how long this has been happening. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I wouldn't think it necessary to go to the vet with them. Bella had worms a couple of months ago - I'd had the Panacur in for ages but thought it would be a nightmare giving it to them so kept putting it off (learnt my lesson now :?). As soon as I saw them I started both of them on the Panacur and did the nine day treatment. They were very noticeable in Bella's poos but within three days of starting the Panacur I stopped seeing them so I would think doing the nine day course would be enough.

Don't know what type of worms they would be :?

Rabbits usually get pinworms, which are 5-10mm long, white, and wriggley

Agree with Becca that Panacur is probably a good idea.

This is what Bella's looked like. The first two days I saw them I thought I must be seeing things as I don't know where she could have got them from, but on day three there was no doubt . The Panacur worked very quickly once I worked out how to get it into them both!
