is there anything i can give to my rabbit for a tummy ache? i cannot get to the vets at the moment x
If your rabbit has bloat/GI Stasis he needs more than just pain-relief and also needs to see a vet ASAP as both conditions can very quickly become killers.
There is no 'over the counter' painkiller suitable for rabbits.
infacol baby medicine for wind is OK to give them, plus a gentle tummy rub and if you can get them to run about it sometimes shifts the problem. When mine go like this, as well as giving infacol, I dissolve half an asprin in 200ml water, and grind a raspberry rennies into the water too - and syringe about 10ml into them, leave them for an hour then do it all again.
How do you know he has tummy ache though? Has he had any problems or seen a vet about his teeth recently?

I have to disagree with Elve I am affraid, Aspirin is not a good choice to give a Bun who already has a tummy problem.
Infacol is only of use for gas in the intestines. But if the stomach (top of abdomen, just below rib cage) is distended/hard then giving Infacol wont help and may even make matters worse. If you really cant get to a Vet could you at least telephone them for advice?
Or could someone else take Bunny to the Vet for you.
Has your Rabbit passed any poo today? If not then it really is essential that he/she receives vet treatment as if the guts stop working the Bun eventually goes into liver failure  ( Hepatic Lipidosis or 'Fatty Liver' )
I do hope your Bun will be OK
Please keep us posted

thank you for the advice.
yes she has seen the vet - i took her because she is constantly grinding her teeth - vet checked teeth, and temp etc and all appeared to be ok.
she asked me to keep an eye on her.
then took her back to the pet shop i got her from because she appeared to have mucous in her poo, and had gone off her food,
asked if it could be mucoid - she didnt think so and told me to give her lots of greens to make her have an upset tummy then the good bacteria would start again.
the only thing she appears to eat is basil and parsley.
she was layed on a hot water bottle last night and it appeared to help her tummy.
she is having trouble eating her other food because she is grinding her teeth.
her tummy is also gargling.
spoken to the vet today because she is too busy to see and she said to try pineapple juice - which i have done and she has gulped that down, and also some warm water.
she still appears to be running around a little but still will not stop grinding her teeth.
poos today are dark black, but no mucous - she has plently of food around her and water - both in a bottle and a bowl.
i hate to see the baby bunny like this - do you have any more tips?
May I suggest getting a new vet that actually knows about rabbits
Some of that advice is absolutely horrendous! :censored: She is grinding her teeth because she is in severe pain!
Edit: do yu mean the vet or pet shop lady told you to feed her greens? :?

She is grinding her teeth because she is in a lot of pain
Please try to get her back to a Vet who will give appropriate treatment. She needs pain relief, a probiotic, possibly a med called Questran to mop up the 'bad' gut bacteria before it is absorbed through the gut wall causing Enterotoxaemia and subsequent multi-organ failure. She may also need fluid therapy as dehydration is a major risk to a Baby Bunny
I really am not trying to make you feel even more distressed but I cannot emphasis enough the urgency of getting your Rabbit to a Vet *who will actually treat her*
Pineapple Juice may be tastey but is as good as useless for a Bun with possible Enteritis. It may even make her worse as the sugar it contains will exacerbate the production of enterotoxins ( bad gut bacteria)
As for the Pet Shops 'advice' IGNORE IT It is complete and utter rubbish. Also, if your Bun was with other Babies in the shop then they should *not* be sold for at least 7 days to make sure they too have not aquired the GI problem. I would notify your local Council Environmental Health Department ( who licence Pet Shops to sell animals)

If you post your location perhaps someone can recommend a good rabbit vet near to you who will see your rabbit. She sounds very sick to me and your current vet doesn't sound very compassionate :?
Tooth grinding is a real worry as it indicates she needs painrelief.
Also dont offer her any food she has not eaten before now as it will compound her GI issues. Offer her lots of (luke warm) fluid and try to get her to eat some hay.
She may benefit from some Fiberplex, a concentrated Fiber & probiotic paste which will help stabilise her gut flora. This is available from your vet (though can be ordered online for future use).

Hi Laura,
I think you need to take her to another vet asap. Where abouts are you? Someone on here may know a good vet near you. Good luck.
