just wanted some advice on how you groom your long haired breeds. i have been gromming minstrel about twice a week, but she has a couple of big mats on each side of her back and i've been spending an hour just doing a bit at a time, but it just seems like i'm not getting anywhere :(:? i feel i need to do her more regularly, but i'm struggling just to get her coat into a condition where she can just be brushed in a much shorter space of time either every day or every otherday. like i said at the moment i'm spending an hour just doing a tiny bit. i feel really awful, like i'm letting her down, but i know once i get her coat back to square one, i'll be able to manage better.

also noticed she's a bit thin on top of her back. is she having a mid-winter moult?

any tips and advice appreciated

A lot of people with longer haired breeds trim them regularly to help with grooming. You might find shortening the fur in problem areas (around the bum/backlegs makes things easier. If you're nervous about doing it yourself a groomer or vet should be able to get you started :)

i've thought about this, but i'm concerned about cutting her coat at this time of year as she's a garden bun.
