  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Floss back to vet!

Hilda rang me about ten minutes ago. It seems Floss is toxic. She is having an X-ray as we speak.

Vibes for her please

She's obviously had some sort of relapse.:( The Xray shows a very distended stomach, but the caecum was fairly normal(the caecum was the affected part on Tuesday), so she's had another jab of gut stimulant, metacam and also Baytril. Emily noticed that her mucous membranes seemed quite inflamed which points to a level of toxicity. I've to give moxalon 3x tomorrow and then twice a day till Sunday, and Baytril from tomorrow night for 4 days even if she seems better. Both buns are back in the bathroom till further notice. I was SO pleased about them getting back outdoors this morning..did you see my post in Stories ?..that'll teach me! It's looking increasingly as if it was that nibbled laurel leaf that 's been the culprit, but I suppose we'll never know. :( She's also quite cold so we've got her huddled next to the radiator.

Poor Floss (and you obviously).

I hope she gets better soon, it must be really stressful for you.

I know what you mean about being pleased at apparent recoveries, I was just about to put the shelf back in the playhouse and Inky is limping again. Next time I decide to do it, I'm not going to tell them beforehand:lol:.

Lots of vibes

FC xx

Rog has just shouted up that she's eating some hay!!:D . He's in the bath at the moment so I expect they are having a sauna!!

Thanks BB. I feel so guilty now about stopping the gut stimulant yesterday..she just seemed so well and I'd assumed she was fully recovered.
