What colour should meadow hay be?

Ok I am going to sound like the biggest idiot :lol:

This week I am going to buy a bale of meadow hay and try my buns on that My rabbits wont eat meadow hay from a bag but someone said they might like it fresh from a bale so im hoping they do And I know loads of your buns love bales of meadow hay :lol:

I just want to check one thing, are all bales of meadow hay pretty much the same and what colour should it be? I want to make sure I am getting the right one Im guessing it will look different to the stuff in the bags because its fresh? x

It can vary greatly depending on how old it is.
Ideally you want it to be a mix of greenish beige. Smell is important, it needs to smell 'fresh' as in like a meadow!
Texture wise, smooth and silky rather than rough and extremely spiky.
If it smells musty, damp or just not right, don't buy it If its all brown and dusty looking, don't buy it
