Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Flumps eyes again

Can anyone help?? Since Flump has had weepy eyes her fur around her eyes gets matted up - been washing them with luke warm water - but it is not getting rid of it and her fur keeps gettin hard and obviously is uncompfy!

Anyone had this problem? What did you use to soften the fur??

I trimmed Chances fur down using round ended scissors and applied Sudocreme (you can also use vaseline) as a barrier to cream to prevent the tears burning his skin.

I used unscented baby wipes to clean his eyes.

If Flump is not good at being held then please get the vet to trim her fur for you incase you damage her eye.

Alternatively clean the fur well and apply the cream over it if the skin is not sore.

Howdie,

I had similar problems with Buffs and found luke warm average strength tea helped - but it does take ages.

Also as suggested I trimed down the fur around her eye and used Vasaline which really did help.

I also use as a matter of course now False Tear Drops which you can get from the Chemist - they have really helped to keep her eye generally healthy as she suffers from problems with her tear ducts.

Hope this helps.

Im definately gonna try the vaseline and the trimming down of her fur. Another problem arose last night, her eyes are bright red and are weeping bright yellow discharge. This as started happening since using TEARSIL is this a sign of the infection being flushed?

Do you mean 'Tiacil' ?
If so then I have had Buns who's eye problems *worsened* after about 3-4 days on Tiacil.

I would advise you to stop the Tiacil today and take Bun back to the Vet tomorrow. A different eye treatment may be needed. Fucithalmic is often more soothing but it does not have such good 'duct penetration' as Tiacil.

Personally I would not use Sudocrem near the eyes as the zinc oxide and alcohol in it may be an ocular irritant. A smear of vaseline will be OK
