  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

**WORRIED** need help!!

Truffle

New Kit
Okay so I am soon getting a new bunny, and I have to take my new rabbit to get neutered/spayed. I always thought my rabbit was a boy but I was never sure. So I googled rabbit sexing. I looked at a lot of websites and then when I went to check my bun I saw that on either side of the anus were these small black things. And I never heard of anything like thins before. Not to be gross or anything but, they look like droppings, but smaller and not round. I am not sure if they are supposed to be there or not but I am very worried.
Does anyone know what I am talking about?
HELP!

Thanks

this is probly just secretion from the glands but if you are worried pop him along to vets. or possibly uneaten caecotrophs...or as you say could be pooh stuck there.

What do you mean by secretion from the glands or uneaten caecotrophs?
I'm thinking if it is poo I want to try to pull it off, but if its not could it be dangerous to try to pull it????

agreed get the vet to look. i had a female rabbit who had sticky bits by her bum either side and vet told me it was just from the glands and was normal. by uneaten caecotrophs i mean the plaited looking poohs that buns eat (rank isnt it! whod be a rabbit!) basically they look different to normal poohs and they eat them to get remaining neutrients. i would go pop to vet just to be on safe side...rember we are all just owners not experts!

Are you sure they're not testicles? That's the first thing that sprang to mind when I read it. How old is your rabbit and what colour is he, if he's a dark coloured rabbit then they could be testicles.
