Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Albino rabbits more prone to illness?

I read something like this months ago online, and a friend just asked this when I was talking about Mimi...Any truth to this? I only saw it on one page (don't have it now), and can't really find much about it, so I'm hoping it's not true...

It makes me so sad to see all she's been through in her 1 year :(

As far as I am aware they are no more prone to illness than any other rabbit. But from what I gather they are more prone to eyesight problems and can scan (moving head from side to side) because of this.

I hope someone else can either verify this or put me straight

Mimi is gorgeous and one thing I've learnt when it comes to bunnies is not to worry about problems that don't yet exist.... it's hard I know, especially when we love them so much!

Thea & Bobbin, I am SO glad to hear you say that!!!!!!!!!!! *huge hugs* (fingers crossed that you're right ;) ).

No, I ask b/c she's had ongoing ear infections (I posted an update yesterday; it's better but "just" at her eardrum... + a new eye infection, and breathes kinda loud at times - the vet listened and said her lungs are clear though). I'm not sure what to think b/c I lost my 1st bunny at her age b/c of an ear infection...

Thanks for your insights! Oh, and thanks plenty for the compliment, too (on her behalf :) ).

You're welcome, but I just wish someone else would confirm it :?

The problem with bunnies are they are pretty delicate little creatures by nature, as you well know  So sorry for your loss  So I think it would be hard to say that one type is more prone to illness than another. Different breeds can have different problems, like Mini Lops having dental issues due to their squashed faces or Rex's with sore hocks (sore points on heels) due to their fur type.

Sending nosey rubs to Mimi and hope she recovers well x

I have heard so many people say that but im not sure if it is true, i have also heard that pure breeds are more prone to illness. Some say that they are more aggressive too, but i think it all depends on the bunny, im sure they all have individial charaters!
