i vac my bunnies today

jesska

Alpha Buck
well cause iv got the large 10 bunnies its quiet hard and embarrassing trying to get 10 bun in the vets when they have their myxo done and well it cost me around £200 every 6months and cause their in large groups of 3s and 4s they dont fit it thier carries. soo.. i went to vet for the last time with the large 10 and she showed me how to do it and then i did the rest whilst she was their. as iv learnt abit bottom of the ear because thats the main working of the vacine and then rest of the vacine left over just in the scruff of the neck. she's such a lovely vet she given me instuctions and contacted her if i need help and ill just pop in for a refresher. what i did was i order my vaccines online and i tuck them in the vet and she show me wat to do with them and eassy. so i just carry on ordering them online for 5 vacine 36.00 quid and 2.00 quid delivery woo. and she will provide needles and dispence them for me. so instead off my usual £200 quid turns into £72.00 and a less stress rabbit mummy :D

It's great your vet is so helpful :)

Do you get a prescription from your vet then? Where do you order them?

yeah she give me a continuous prescription and i order them from Hyperdrug by phone and within 2-3 day there here and i get it sent to work and then i just pop them in the fridge with a big " don't touch" lol but like when iv swap vets or tried other one they have never done it behind the ear first just injected all in the scruff she just specialised in buns so im really pleased. :D

Thats really good that the vet is helping out with the cheaper option.

I couldn't do it though because I hate needles - you must be one brave lady.:D

So you can order them online with a prescription? Could you post the link to see please?

yeah i dont really mind the about the needles, and its quiet easy you know when you have broke the skin cause you can feel it. the bit behind the ear is abit tricky but it tuck me and vet alot or preparing finding out if i was aloud to so we contacted intervet and yeah im fine. :D

I have just spoken to my vets and there are two major hitches with me doing self-vaccination.

1. If they dont give the injection they cannot sign the vaccination certificate rendering it invalid for boarding.
2. I have to have it delivered through them as the vaccine MUST be delivered chilled to the correct temperature as it is very easy to 'kill' the vaccine.

So they are calling a couple of organisations for me to try and see what they suggest.

yeah i know dont really matter about the certifcate though, yeah they keep it chilled when they send it for, and as soon as it arrive i got told i have to put in the fridge so no probs for me :D

oh yeah you will need the vac certifcates for rehomeing buns but mine are just for my own buns so dont really need it

yeah i see what you mean.
you also get the sticker when the vacines come to put in the intervet booklets and also my vets provide me with the booklets free of charge actually i think you download them of the intervet site. i fill everything in, and just wrote my name on the sign area but then this is just for my own purposes.
but i wounder if you would be able to put your rescue name in the signed area? :?
anyways its somthings to think about makes things alot cheaper, and for me a little less stressful.

It's good your vet is so willing to help out. I've asked about getting a discount for vhd for using a whole vial of lapinject but I have to phone up and speak to the head honcho and I'm scared too.

It needs to be signed by an RCVS accredited vet to be valid so not really any good signing myself.

Though I suppose it depends if the boarder actually checks or not, which I doubt they do.

Would they be able to write up a document saying that they've given a prescription for - rabbits to be vaccinated by yourself on - date and see if that would do? You're hardly likely to order a bulk lot of vaccinations then not use them

Oh gosh, I thought you meant you vac'd your bunnies as in vacuumed them. I was just thinking do they like it?

That's pretty neat that you get to do it yourself and probably alot easier. How did you usually get them all to the vets?

Its not mainly about the vaccinations being given that they sign it apparently. Its to confirm the rabbit was healthy. I pointed out that they all get health checks which are not signed for but they still seemed reluctant
