Right is it better for bun to be given mediction orally or sub cu? The only reason i'm asking is i've noticed a few posts about people giving their rabbits sub cu injections now i'm a qualified nurse and just wondered whether my vets would let me do this like for example at the mo we're giving miffy 3 lots of meds twice a day which she detests us giving her orally and more often than not just lets it dribble out all over her dewlap so just wondering really.
Thanks :)

It depends what the meds are.
Antibiotics are generally better given s/c as there is less risk of gut dysbiosis
Gut motility meds are also better given s/c as if the bun is in GI stasis they wont absorb meds given orally.
Meds given s/c take effect more quickly than if given orally so if acute pain is an issue analgesia is best given s/c

I am sure your Vet would agree to you, a qualified nurse, giving your Bun injections. Maybe the Vet may want to do a trial run so as he/she can make sure you can administer the injections correctly to your Bun

Thanks i think i'll ask next time either of them need meds as it'll be much less traumatic for me and the buns. Lol it'll be like being 18again and having a trial run in being shown how to inject myself with clexane injections for a blood clot.

Our vet sent me home with Baytril & a set of syringes a while back and I didn't even ask. He watched me administer the first dose in the surgery.

My husband gives ours any injections if they need them. Not all vets are happy about giving out injections.

Personally, I think they are a lot less stressful for the bun if someone can inject rather than trying to orally feed meds.

Well that's my opinion too, we've just had to give miffy her oral meds and she refuses to swallow them and just lets them drool out of her mouth then ends up with a sticky dewlap
