Hello

Firstly I'd like to say Hi as I've only just joined the forum! My name is Kirsty and I have a 18 week old Netherland Dwarf rabbit called Alice. We've had her for approx 9 weeks now and she is such a little character.

She is a house rabbbit and as she is now (well, almost!) litter trained she plays on our living room floor. I always check the floor for anything she can chew or may harm her before I let her play.

Just recently however, once she has been out of her hutch for a while, she starts jumping about the floor but not like a normal rabbit does. It's quite hard to describe, but when you see her do it, it looks like a spasm in her muscles, and sometimes her body twists at the same time. It doesn't seem to bother her as carries on playing, but it will then happen again.

I've had bunnies before and I've never seen this so I'm quite worried as obviously if there is something wrong, i want to help her. Has anyone seen this before and any idea what it could be? I've thought maybe it could be because she is over excited but it doesn't make sense!

I hope somebody understands what I mean and thank you in advance.

I /think/ that'd be her binkying... Does she race around at high speeds and sort of skip up into the air, twist about...? It's just an expression of happiness, if so. ^^ Meaning, she's a happy little rabbit and wants to show it.

Oh fabulous! I really was getting worried about her as she's so small. It's no wonder she looked sad last night after I put her in her cage after a 'binkying' episode!

Thank you very very much, I've just been looking through the forum and I'm sure it's going to be very useful#1 :D

I have a rabbit who likes to aim his binkies /at/ me. It can be quite scary. But when they have their crazy little 'binky episodes', they can be quite entertaining to watch. ^^

my little nethie rosie also does very odd binkies she will litterally bounce straight up in the air and do what in ice-scating terms I think you call a tripple toe loop....ok she doesn't quite flip herself around but I'm sure she will one day. She is also my only bun that can roll over on her back. I think because they are so light they can do things other buns can't.

Tarquin flips onto his back too - I've never had another bunny do it, so maybe it is a Nethie thing. It's so adorable but so quick I've never been able to get a photo of him doing it. He always looks surprised too when he's done it! Especially when he's rolled onto his back and gone right over onto the other side.

Archie our dwarf lop likes to have a binky too

he will be sitting one second then it is as if he has suddenly been injected with adrenalin and he goes nuts and skippys through the air - remind me sometimes of that dancing thing where they swish their legs together to one side - don't know the posh dancing term for it!!
